I have a couple friends in Phoenix both say it has been hot and are looking forward to winter.

Here on the mid-atlantic coast we have had 4 days over 100* which is a record for us. I remember in the 50's and 60's we would have hot spells for a month or two that were called Bermuda Highs but I doubt we were this hot, probably mid 90's. Difference was that only the movie theaters were air conditioned then.

I worked construction out doors for 50 years and couldn't stand AC in the summer, it wasn't that it didn't feel good but it would wreck my body, even when I was younger. My poor wife. I finally gave in and just gritted my teeth. Now I can't live without AC. Mike

Kids do funny things, that's why it's fun watching them grow up.

That's why it's so fun to take them hunting/fishing young. She's now 13 and has two deer under her belt. Do you think I'm a proud grandpa? She is doing a crossbow this season. You betcha. Mike

Hey guys and gals.
Shimano 4500B , Cast out then when turn handle to flip bail back, gets stuck. Hosed it all down, still getting stuck. Something ez I can do or take it to shop for cleaning?
Thanks all,
Kandy

You should be able to pull the bail off and make sure it isn't rusted. If so, lightly sand it down, put some oil or other lub and reinstall. It's installed like a spring. Mike

Thanks for sharing, nice pictures.
When our kids were little we were camping in the mountains and went to the lake to fish. We set up their gear but all they wanted to do was grab a stick and pretend to fish. They did just as well as we did. LOL.

Larry, my son-in-law and I took my granddaughter Turkey hunting. Of course after about a hour in the blind she became very bored so we went stalking. Her dad was in front and I was behind her. Almost immediately she found a stick and as we proceeded to stalk she beat just about every bush she passed. Her mother had dressed her and she looked like the Michelin Tire Guy. She beat the crap out of bushes, tripped on most roots without being hurt because she bounced from her outerwear. I'll never forget that, the best laugh I've ever had. Mike

Very good advice here. Go the forgiveness route for your sake, he and she are gone so holding him to account now is only going to weigh on you. Let it go, you'll be better off for it. Mike

I'll check into that but am going to still keep working on the old one. Won't hurt I guess. Mike

Mine is 185lb @ 390 fps. It is a flinger!

That scares me as to whether I'll even be able to cock it. Might need to start lifting weights. Mike

I have a manual crank for my xbow. My son that lays carpet for a living could not cock it. He just thought I was getting too old until he tried it. 50 yds and I can Hit a 5” paper plate every time - I am super impressed with it.

Just got a new crossbow. Shoots 500gr bolts a 415fps, has a 200lb draw weight which I haven't tried yet and that's the reason I'm working with my other crossbow to get my muscles in shape. My son-in-law has shot it and it's amazingly accurate and extremely fast. Mike

I hear ya, I used to practice year round with the bow, out to 45 yards, from every position I could think of.
I haven’t shot the bow in quite a few years now, don’t know if I could still draw it back. Loved shooting it, very gratifying when ya feel that perfect shot before it hits the target.😊

I've had to go to a crossbow, can't hold the compound back anymore. Hell getting older but I consider the option. Heck, ever other day I'm pulling on the bow trying to keep the muscles somewhat in shape. Turned 70 today. Mike

About five years ago, there was a report that a young female veterinarian had reported on line that she had just shot and killed a feral house cat and showed its picture on Facebook.

Well, there arose a hue and cry about it. Since she had shown evidence of killing the cat, it was brought before the State Vet board. In the end she was fined and got her license suspended for one year. This is Houston and a large metropolitan area. It has in its population some people who had rather see a 1,000 grown nesting birds killed than one semi feral house cat.

The supposed owners of the cat, or those that claimed it, said it had a name and would never do such a thing. Obviously, they had no knowledge of the nature of this or any other cat that's allowed out at night to roam and hunt. That's their nature and cannot be changed. House cats should be kept in the house!

I still advocate any hunter out in the woods who sees a cat, shoot that cat! Save untold number of young helpless birds. If the cat hunted to eat, but they don't. I sent an email to the young unemployed vet and told her her mistake was posting her good deed on the internet. There are too many whinners who have no idea the destruction caused by "innocent" house cats.

I expect I will get some flack over my opinion and solution. I have been a quail hunter all my life, or until I can't walk and hunt. Any feral house cat I ever saw out hunting birds too, was a dead cat! Just Sayin...RJS
About five years ago, there was a report that a yo... (show quote)

RJS, I've been a CAT owner for probably 40 or more years and I agree whole heartily with you. I've had one cat in all of that time I didn't worry about being let outside. It was a pure white male I got before it was weaned from a girl I knew. Her father was going to drown the litter and she was trying to save them.

The cat had five toes on it's front feet and one eye was green and one was blue. As soon as I let the kitten out of the paper sack it headed directly behind the fridge where it stayed for almost three weeks until I was able to coax it out. In that time my house was off limits to anyone but me. His name was pooter for obvious reasons.

Anyway, that cat grew up to be about 13 lbs. The reason I didn't worry about letting him out is he would catch birds, butterflies, skinks etc. and bring them to my wife and me as presents and none had a single scratch on them. He had the softest mouth I've seen on any animal. We have watched him leap and catch dragonflies in mid-air and bring them to us alive and well. Other than him every cat I've had (you don't own cats, they own you) could and would be a killer, it's how GOD made them.

When my daughter was born he committed suicide by running into traffic which he never had done before. He never went outside of our short (2') chain link fence except for one time and that was to confront a boxer who was charging at me snarling. The dog backed down. Mike

That's in the Pacific species and especially in the western Pacific. The Atlantic species are not poisonous. I've been cleaning and eating them for over 60 years. Mike

It's called a blow toad, puffer. It's absolutely fantastic eating if you know how to clean it. Make a cut on the back just behind the dorsal fin but not through the belly. Grasp the head and strip the skin off of the fish. You end up with a morsel on either side of the backbone/ no rib bones/ that can be cooked anyway you like. Mike
