About five years ago, there was a report that a young female veterinarian had reported on line that she had just shot and killed a feral house cat and showed its picture on Facebook.

Well, there arose a hue and cry about it. Since she had shown evidence of killing the cat, it was brought before the State Vet board. In the end she was fined and got her license suspended for one year. This is Houston and a large metropolitan area. It has in its population some people who had rather see a 1,000 grown nesting birds killed than one semi feral house cat.

The supposed owners of the cat, or those that claimed it, said it had a name and would never do such a thing. Obviously, they had no knowledge of the nature of this or any other cat that's allowed out at night to roam and hunt. That's their nature and cannot be changed. House cats should be kept in the house!

I still advocate any hunter out in the woods who sees a cat, shoot that cat! Save untold number of young helpless birds. If the cat hunted to eat, but they don't. I sent an email to the young unemployed vet and told her her mistake was posting her good deed on the internet. There are too many whinners who have no idea the destruction caused by "innocent" house cats.

I expect I will get some flack over my opinion and solution. I have been a quail hunter all my life, or until I can't walk and hunt. Any feral house cat I ever saw out hunting birds too, was a dead cat! Just Sayin...RJS

If a wild cat in on my property after my quail he gets Remington disease!! That is if my dogs don't get to him first. People drop off their unwanted pets in our countryside and it really is not healthy for them.

Amen, Brother! According to the State Wildlife Biologist who was in charge of the Prairie Chicken project, house cats were the # 1 destroyer of ground nesting birds. To compound this destructive act, the cats don't eat what they kill, it is just a trophy. And innocent home owners who think nothing of allowing Puss out for a little fresh air don't realize what they are causing. Just Sayin...RJS

Yep! A long time ago, we lived at the edge of town and before I realized that our cat was doing so much destruction, almost every morning, on our front door step would be a dead rat, mouse, or baby rabbit! She just wanted us to know she had brought home a gift for us. Once, a mouse wasn't dead, and upon opening the door it dashed inside the house, which cause some alarm and a chase by everyone. Back here in the north east it’s the grouse and rabbits that feral cats wipe out. I love all the critters but cats in the woods have to go. Luckily there are coyotes that consider scratch rabbits as good as real rabbits.

I agree! If you own a cat keep it inside. I know the coyotes around here love fresh cat

We had a cat that chased birds. On more than one occasion brought a live bird into the house and let it go. What fun that was.

Guys, I forgot to mention that the lady vet had killed the domestic hunting cat with a bow and arrow. I suspect the reason she posted the photo was that she was just proud of the fact she was able use a "silent" but deadly technique that was acceptable inside city limits. I sent her an Email that in my opinion she was censored only because she posted the fact and that post was enough evidence to convict her. Next time, do it again, but don't post any pictures of the kill. Just Sayin...RJS

Yep! I practiced over and over till I could hit a 12 inch target at 30 yards ! About the limit for white tail deer because they are able to jump the arrow when they head the bow string! Just Sayin RJS

I hear ya, I used to practice year round with the bow, out to 45 yards, from every position I could think of.
I haven’t shot the bow in quite a few years now, don’t know if I could still draw it back. Loved shooting it, very gratifying when ya feel that perfect shot before it hits the target.😊
