Hi Widget, you have had a lot of interesting answers to your question regarding Lake Erie and. 14 foot boat. Just a quick FYI I have fished Lake Erie since I was 9 years old, I am now 74. I fished it from Frenchtown, MI to Erie PA. I fished with a 16 foot Mirro-craft with. 25 HP Johnson motor for a number of years. I would make only 2 comments to answer your question. 1) The size of your boat is not nearly as important as your experience handling it on Lake Erie. If you’re experienced in how your boat handles Lake Erie’s 3-4 foot following seas then go fishing. if not, well it’s an interesting education learning how it handles and it’s something you will experience if you fish Erie. 2) Radar and weather reports do not tell you about upcoming Wind shifts. It also doesn’t tell you about wind sheer and how on a clear sunny blue sky day for reasons that are not predictable the wind will go from 5 MPH to 10 and then to 15+ in a matter of a few short minutes. If it’s a north quadrant wind you have 3 footers hitting your stern. The suns still out the sky is blue but now you have to get in. The question to ask yourself is can you get your rig in? Doesn’t matter it’s size what matters is your ability with your boat and motor. I hope this gives you some things to consider before you head out.

These lakes are over boated, over populated with people and over fished. Your best bet is to find Long Lake. Fishing with worms near weed beds is normally productive. Nice size bluegills are around the lake and they love worms or wax worms. Long Lake is the quietest of all the lakes and is away from a lot of the crazy traffic and crowds. There is a bait shop right on long lake and they used to rent boats as well. Years back it was called Z's Bait shop but it has changed ownership. Sorry I don't know the new name. Good luck to you and have fun.

If your trying for bass, ditch the Carolina and Texas rigs. They are not productive here at deer creek. Set up a 5" purple or black plastic worm on a drop shot rig. get to the weed beds and cast just outside of them. Work your rod up and the move it toward the water. Watch the line and when is straightens out set the hook. Use the lightest possible drop shot sinker. This lake is not very deep at the line of the weed beds. The bass are in the 1 pound range but they are plentiful on any given day. Best of luck to you and enjoy your time fishing..

Where do you fish? From the name of your post (waves) I am thinking Erie? If so, where about do you plan to go out of. I might be able to offer some suggestions if your going to areas of the lake I fish.

Used to be a Great Lake for large mouth bass. No big ones but many in the 1-2 pound range. Row boats and electric motors only. There used to be a bait shop on 422 just east of the bridge. I would locate a bait shop and pick their brains about the lake. Best of luck to you!

Nice day on the bay! Years ago I used to live it when that water hit 57 degrees. Those bass would really chow down. You churched it. My best day was back in the mid 70’s got 9 in one day. You set a new record in my book. Nice going and great picture. Have a great year out there. 🎣

Boated and fished there for years. Left due to the amount of boat traffic. Just terrible. That was 5 years ago. I know new boat docks went in last couple years and they filled up that year. Just way too many boats and way too few fish for me.
