Alright stagers... was wanting to post pics of a successful trip but who knows if one will ever happen.

I bought a boat back in Feburary, 21ft Sylvan, 350 bowrider. It was cold, I believe in truth and people being honest. Guy told me boat ran great, I did my inspection points and everything looked great. Fast forward to May, time to de-winterize and start this bad boy. To no avail ot wouldn't run. Checked spark, coil, blah blah. Leads me back to bad ICM, $250 used on ebay and who knows if it works? Decided to just put a marine distributor in and bypass all that stuff! Finally it started, sounded great! Hooked up on muffs, water trickling out of the tell tale.... I dont know anything about boats, figure I'll take it to the lake and atleast see how it runs... well it gets hot... we ended up going out about 200 yards and anchoring down. I'm guessing it needs a new impeller was my initial thought from the beginning. Alpha one, gen one. Wish me luck on changing this thing! Will post more pics if we ever make it back out..

Dave, my dad always said the happiest 2 days of a boat owner is when he buys it and then when he sells it😂🎣🎣🎣
But I buy and sell boats so I guess he's right I'm happy to find a deal and happy to see someone that buy's it because I go through them and fix them up and paint or whatever they need to look and run like new, never had any one disappointed and have had a few repeat sales, don't always make much profit but I enjoy doing it on my spear time 😂😂

My son ran into the same problem with his motor. Put in a new impeller and it still overheated. Turns out it has a thermostat in it. Might be something you want to look at

Yeah, I’ve flipped a couple. But I really like the one I have now, so I’ll keep it probably until my boating days are over. Not as energetic as I once was, flipping boats… 🐟on

Took me a year and a couple thousand to get mine running good.

Yeah, a lot of us are fighting the skin cancer battle. It’s finally catching up with us from when we were bulletproof in our younger days… 🐟on

I just bought another one in April Dozer. I know the boat and know the guy that had it isn’t big on maintenance so I’m going all over it before I take it out. The motor has less than a Hundred hours on it so that’s a plus

Yeah, you can find some pretty good deals sometimes, if you keep your eyes open and not in a hurry. It helps too if you’re able to perform all the work yourself… 🐟on

I will have to check that out. It came with a big folder of paperwork. Looks like the 5.0 blew in 03, was replaced in 04 with a new 5.7, about 400 hours now. I raced stock cars for about 15 years before selling all in 2018 so I know quite a bit about closed cooling engines lol Wouldnt the tell tale still be spitting water even if it had a bad themo?

Man I feel horrible that you’ve had so many issues with the vessel!! Thankfully you have the skills to fix it yourself! Let me know if I can help.

!!! WARNING !!! Never buy a boat without a sea trial. I mean never. If it's winter, then at least take it to a shop where the engine can be tank tested. If the motor is winterized, then just bite the bullet and pay to get it re winterized after the test. If the seller does not go for that, walk, no, run away. The same is true for an outboard, no mater how clean it looks.

Fishing4cats, I had the same experience with a bf50 Honda…changed out thermostat and idle controller on advice from friends…still overheated…was getting a d cent stream out the telltale so I “assumed” the water pump was good… it wasn’t …water was apparently not getting to the water jacket…bought and installed a water pump rebuild kit and problem solved…when I got the water pump opened up 2 out of 5 vanes on impeller were shot…should have listened to my wife!
