I'm wondering if anyone has taken a 14' boat out on lake erie? If so how far could you go out in boat that size?

Widget I'll tell you what a charter captain told me yrs ago.
I bought a 17' glastron.
I asked him if it was big enough for the Chesapeake bay. His response was sometimes a 27' boat isn't big enough.

Thanks grizzly. I was most worried about safety. Looks I'll need some over time to get a 28' πππ
Appreciate you bud
I take my 14β boat out in Erie all the time. I only go when the weather and waves are right and I stay within a mile of shore. I only have a four stroke 8hp so I make sure not to get in a situation where Iβm trying to get back in quickly to avoid weather. I ALWAYS WEAR MY PFD!!! Be careful and always error on the side of caution and youβll be ok.

Thanks J.
I'm out of Akron wanting to fish more lake erie. You have an suggestion as to where to launch?
My Uncle took his 12β boat out about 8 miles onto Lake Michigan trolling for salmon. You just have to pick the correct weather! Good luck and keep an eye on your radar on your phone!
Pick and choose the weather and have fun. Donβt forget about weather forecast. Flat calm in morning can turn into windy by afternoon. Wear your PFD and have fun.

Becarefull out there man π
IMO, yes, in caps. It depends, but you really need to know how the water is going to react. Barnegat bay is generally very calm in the morning on a summer day. By mid morning, the wind will be at 10 to12 and have a short period chop that can beat you up in a small boat. If there is a chance of t storms then it can change in minutes. That I can verify from personal experience. I guess the biggest thing is awareness of your environment and being close enough to an escape route.

There are many ramps available. I use Fairport Harbor cuz it's close. Just be mindful of the weather. There is a hump a short ride that is perch loaded. Walleye near also.
Thanks for all the input it's really helpful and appreciated. You guys are awesome. I'll take all this into consideration. Thanks again

I would recommend Fairport as well because I know of a few closer to shore spots there that usually produce. Iβll PM you the info after work. Edgewater is where I usually launch and Iβve got a few good spots there as well.

Awesome J thanks man. I'm stoked about trying it out
You have to be VERY careful. Storms and waves pick up so quickly, it can be scary. Err on the side of safety, if it looks like it could storm, don't go out!
