Good idea Oil scout, every year here in NC some crabber goes overboard and a few days later they find a floater.

We just lost a professional crabber about a month ago. 30'+/- crab boat. Went out as usual at dusk. Didn't return so a search was started and his boat was found jammed up at one of the bridges. His body was found a few days later. Not that age matters but he was 65 and by himself.

About a year ago my cousin, we were both 75 YO, asked if I wore my PFD all the time. Told him no, only when I was running the boat. Than asked the question that hit me in the head. If the wind is blowing and the current is boiling in the opposite direction and you fell out could you get back to the boat? Of course the answer was "NO". Now I keep my auto inflate on at all times. Cheap insurance and a way not to turn into crab bait in Lake Pontchartrain.

That has nothing to do with fishing. It’s the insert from a box of .22 cal. bullets

I hunt in areas off the Mississippi River that flood every year. You can be in your duck blind or on a deer stand and look up and see colored flagging 30-40' above you. These are marking where the deep water crawfish fishermen mark their crawfish traps during the flood season.

We use to catch a few stone crabs around Lake Pontchartrain but haven't seen them for years.

The blue crabs here in South Louisiana can't be beat. The crabbers here make most of their money by shipping their number 1 crabs to the Chesapeake Bay area. To buy a hamper of #1 crabs here cost about $125+ that will be about 60 to 70 crabs. I catch my own and boil them for friends and family. Over the 4th of July weekend we caught and boiled 140 very nice crabs. Seafood restaurants can get $7 a piece for crabs. One place I know charges $129 a dozen.

Leatherman came out in 1983. I have carried the original Leatherman since they first hit the market. Old enough that it came with a leather pouch. I never go fishing or hunting without it on my belt. I have repaired fishing reels and repaired a trigger on my Mod. 70. It is strong enough to cut barbed wire.

Ugly stick makes a 5' light combo. I've got one and use it to pond fish . changed reel for a shimano put on 6lb test. It casts well and should do the trick for you

I have a 5' Ugly Stick and also have a 4' 8". I always have them on the boat. I'm a salt water fisherman and have caught many speckle trout and redfish with them.

Back in the '60s and '70 I made and sold fishing maps of offshore Louisiana. It showed the rigs and the block numbers. This was long before GPS. Most of us used dead reckoning for short offshore trips. Going to the blue water there was Loran. If you never used Loran you know how much of a pain it could be. One tower not sending signals and you were back to dead reckoning.
Now the Shakespeare Ugly Stick came out in 1976. One of the shops that sold my maps was Professional Sport, in downtown New Orleans. It was owned by the Gele Brothers and they had anything you needed for hunting but especially for fishing. I was there when their first order of Ugly Sticks was opened. It was an improvement of the Shakespeare Wonder rod. George Gele gave me one and told to go fishing and try to break it. After 3 weeks of catching bull redfish and king mackerel up to 50# it was decided that their hype
was true. Still have and use that rod. I have 30+ rods in my locker and 7 of them are Ugly Sticks and I've given all 4 of my grand children a Stick when they started fishing with me. Do I believe in them? You bet I do.

Won’t say anything.....you know how I feel about Ugly Stix, other than they are garbage....bad choice.

Well salesrep I won't say anything to get me kicked of this site but your answer with no reasons for your dislike is proof enough that you don't know what you are talking about. Count the responses to Old75 that are positive and with examples of why Ugly Stix are very good rods and count your one comment with no reason for your crappy reply. I've run into people like you all of my life (75 so far) who have no idea how to use less expensive equipment. I have fished Ugly Stix since they first came out. Fish from farm ponds to offshore and never had a rod fail me. So to Old75, your Stix will last you a lifetime of great fishing.
