I have eaten Snow crab- spider crab-king crab-box crab-Japanese crab which are really local crab and Dungenese. I have never eaten blue crab or stone crab. Of all the crab I have tasted Dungenese is by far the best. My nieghbor from Maryland insists blues are the best.. I was was wondering what every body else thinks.

Former Marylander myself and partial to the blue as well. Only can compare it to Snow crab. Then again its all in how it is prepared.

Never had crab that I didn’t like, though I have never tried Spider Crab or Dungeness.

The best, strongest flavored crabs I ever had were blue crabs from the Indian and Banana rivers in Florida. Why? Probably because of the sulfur water springs along the basin that boiled up and mined in. Since I moved from that area, an increase in population killed the brackish lagoons thanks to fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide runoff. It was a haven for speckled trout, oysters, clams and all kinds of other sea critters. 😪

I've lived on both coasts, in Maryland for a couple years and in California for over 40. I've eaten crab all over the world. Had it prepared all kinds of ways. It's delicious. The best? To my taste buds, king crab from Alaska can't be beat. Needs absolutely nothing to enhance it's flavor - maybe a little butter.

My uncle lives in Tacoma. When my mom would visit him she would fly back with a mess of dungeness crab. We boiled them like we do with blue crab or stone crab claws. Excellent and plenty of meat. I bet the fresh king crab would probably be at the top of the list.

I'm with you. King is second because of the amount of meat in a bite

I like most crabs, but not the kind that crawls around on you.

Lice type CRABS are nothing I want either Flyguy. I like most all crab types. I definitely notice a difference in sweetness between different types. Fresh Steamed is my favorite way to prepare them. Boiling them in Baywater is good too. By Steaming them you do not leach the flavor out of them like boiling can do. Some butter is always a good thing. I really like fresh crab cakes. Some egg and bread crumbs to hold the minced crab meat together in a frypan is all it takes. Go Crabbing during Months with R in them so September through April is best. It is due to Molting Season ( shedding shell ) and water temperatures are lower therefore better crab and harder shells that are full of meat.

When I was stationed in Cheltenham Maryland one of the civilian gate guards on the base was a retired crabber who's son had taken over the business. He would occasionally bring in a bushel basket of steamed blue crabs with the old bay. Throw em out on newspaper on the table, get busy with the hammers and the picks. Awfully good. Still prefer King.

To me its the Blue Crab thats got the best taste. Here if you catch a Stone Crab you brake off the biggest claw and through the crab back. They will grow a new claw. Dungennes is my 2nd choice. King crab clusters are $20.00 a lb. So I have never tried them.
