Learned from my son years ago when he was 13 yo, 32 now, while fishing in Canada for pike and Muskie. He hooked and landed a 48 in pike on a 1/2 oz Spinnerbait.
Told me “Sometimes they want a T-bone steak and sometime just the French fry”.
Was out on the gulf yesterday catching 28 inch Red Grouper on a one oz jig in 100 feet of water. Released 21 R G between24 and 29 inches.
No question, Spinner bait. Questions not narrow. It’s focused! You get you choose one of three that are available.
Saltwater fishing is way cheaper than Muskie fishing!! Especially from a pier.
Rod, reel, sinker, hook. Get some shrimp. Everything eats shrimp. Go catch fish!
Clicker and bait runner two different things but have fishedTarpon And Shark with both and work equally well. With bait runner you just crank the handle. With clicker you have to engage the Reel/drag before reeling.
Make sure you have a flag on it. Should be no problem.
Not sure if anything is more fun than top water

I fish for tarpon in SWFL. The old timers who taught me how all used catfish as bait. I caught about a 5 # Sailcat that had and entire latex glove in it. Maybe thought it was a jelly fish. Would have died a slow death for sure. Problem is to many people are pigs. If you find that offensive, facts are facts. There is a nice beach in the area. Can only get there by boat. There is no garbage pick up there yet some people bag their garbage and leave it there. Most however just throw their garbage in the bushes or pile it up. Much of that blows into the gulf or the river. People are pigs! Not all, but you get the idea.
I fish 60 to 100 miles off shore. On any given day something can go wrong in a second. All saltwater fish are built to hurt you somehow. Something happens that far out you had better know how to react to save your butt or a buddies. There is no 911. The only alcohol on the boat is the bottle we carry to trade with the shrimp boats. Back at the dock, boat on the lift and clean, fish cleaned and bagged. Then it’s time for a cold one.
Sharks are not looking to bite people. Most often mistaken identity. Don’t fish dirty water. Don’t splash around. Don’t run thru schools of baitfish. Your chances are better of getting struck by lighting here in FL.
Buy the kayak
At 67 I had a heart attack at age 50 so living on overtime. Good friend 59 in great shape, runner, tennis, golf, basketball, gym rat, died last week.
Buy the kayak!!
Can order on line. Non resident or resident. Get your confirmation number and good to go. Buy only what you need.
That’s about a 90/120 minute drive to go catch bass. When in FL don't bypass what’s n your own backyard close to FT M. Snook are the Saltwater Bass only fight harder. There is also good snapper fishing in the backwater and I would take friends kayak fishing with lite gear for big Jacks. Not an eater but second to none in a fight pound got pound. Also, tarpon may be here very early this year as the gulf is much warmer this season. That being said, nothing to be doing alone in a kayak but more fun than should be allowed. It’s a sleigh ride on the water.
