I was being fictitious about eating bonito in a comment about cooking blue fish, on another post. But, after posting my comment, it dawned on me that there may actually be ways to make bonito good table fair. Does anyone have any good ways to prepare bonito? Note: I am not stuck into just North American cooking styles.

I have friends that swear by sautéed onions, garlic, and canned tomatoes with the juice from the can….I’ve simply filleted them, taken out the dark flesh, if it’s too fishy for your tastes, sautéed them in butter and onions, then poured teriyaki sauce over and simmered…

Dick’s has been, and always will be a ripoff and a cheap knock-off of other REAL sporting goods stores….hence the name….

I know what you mean….I was fishing for trout at one of the pay for inner city lakes nearby with a 4 lb test mainline and a 2 lb test leader line…they had just stocked some nice trout a couple days before, so I was hoping for the best…they also stock large sturgeon!! The last thing I expected was a 100+ pound sturgeon to grab my line….I only saw him once in the 3+ hours I had him on, until my line went through the guides so many times, it just disintegrated, but man, what a GREAT 3 hours, exhilaration of a lifetime…

Hello all,

When I carp fish, I keep my drag real loose on my spinner wheel. When the bite happens, the line goes off crazy. Then, I tighten my drag only a little bit so that when I reel in, the fish is pulled only slightly.

I change the drag tightness level after some time depending on how the fish reacts. I do this in the fear that if I tighten my drag too quickly, the hook will come off. But I noticed that I lose some fish nonetheless.

I tried to find some stuff online but everyone has a different technique. What are your thoughts on the drag control?

Hello all, br br When I carp fish, I keep my drag... (show quote)

What I’ve found through trial and error is a system that is almost failsafe for me…. What I do is attach to the mainline the rig I plan to use, whether it’s swivel, leader, or lure….then hold the rod and reel in one hand and the end of the setup in the other….I then adjust the drag until I can just barely allow the line to come off the spool under drag….this method takes into account line strength, line stretch, and rod action, as well as appropriate drag pressure so as not to strain each component….once set, you don’t have to mess with the drag any further because your system is dialed in to all your components….this method has worked for me for just about everything from fresh to saltwater and just about every species… hope this helps you…

Went fishing at Lake McSwain Ca. today fishing really slow guy next to me caught this strange color rainbow trout. No its not a Golden Trout, red and orange anyone ever seen this before?

What you’ve caught is a mature golden trout...most are not that large, so nice catch...I caught one in the Sierras about half that size...they were introduced in the 70’s as a new breed of trout being released for sport fishermen....

Usually a couple of times...I was in my twenties back then, and was an all city defensive end at my high school, i’m Damn near 70 now, and if I had a dog like that one back then, if he couldn’t make up the stairs, he’d just end up sleeping right where he passed out....

Good idea RJS... I had an Akita, and he and I used to watch the Tonight Show together, and he’d always bring his bowl over whenever he heard me pop open a cold one, and slap me on the leg with his paw until I shared some with him...after a few together, i’d usually end up carrying my 170 lb baby boy upstairs with me so he could sleep at bedside....

Flyguy was wandering, lost, in a forest when he came upon a small house. Knocking on the door he was greeted by an ancient Chinese man with a long, gray beard. "I'm lost," said Flyguy. "Can you put me up for the night?" "Certainly," the Chinese man said, "but on one condition. If you so much as lay a finger on my daughter I will inflict upon you the three worst Chinese tortures known to man." "OK," said Flyguy, thinking that the daughter must be pretty old as well, and entered the house. Before dinner the daughter came down the stairs. She was young, beautiful and had a fantastic figure. She was obviously attracted to Fly as she couldn't keep her eyes off him during the meal. Remembering the old man's warning he ignored her and went up to bed alone. But during the night he could bear it no longer and snuck into her room for a night of passion. He was careful to keep everything quiet so the old man wouldn't hear and, near dawn, he crept back to his room, exhausted but happy. He woke to feel a pressure on his chest. Opening his eyes he saw a large rock on his chest with a note on it that read, "Chinese Torture 1: Large rock on chest." "Well, that's pretty crappy," Fly thought. "If that's the best the old man can do then I don't have much to worry about." He picked the boulder up, walked over to the window and threw the boulder out. As he did so he noticed another note on it that read "Chinese Torture 2: Rock tied to left testicle." In a panic he glanced down and saw the line that was already getting close to taut. Figuring that a few broken bones was better than castration, he jumped out of the window after the boulder. As he plummeted downward he saw a large sign on the ground that read, "Chinese Torture 3: Right testicle tied to bedpost."
