I personally fished live bait for years on Mississippi gulf coast catching redfish, speckled trout, flounder.usually live shrimp, menhaden or finger mullet, but as i grew older for some reason i was drawn more to artificial because it seemed to me and it's just my opinion that to it was more sporting and it also made me think more and made me test my knowledge that i learned over the years that i still have it as a fisherman and i know when something bites an artificial 99.9 percent of the time its a nice keeper and you'll be having fresh fish for dinner.lol. so with that being said FISH ON MY FELLOW ANGLERS OUT THERE !!!
We call perch, down here in the south we call em' bream, shellcracker, etc. and is some of the sweetest finest tasting fish you'll ever eat.. Just make sure you have enough of them to eat for everyone...LOL... up north i believe perch is a totally different fish though...
Thanks to all of you for your time to tell me something i deep down already knew, but as they say it never hurts to ask.again thank you...
I've been fishing most of my life on Mississippi gulf coast and ive tried all brands of rods and reels and was just wondering..I keep seeing this reel advertised on the net and was wondering if there worth the trouble..Its called a sougayilang. And i believe its out of japan or china.was wondering what y'alls thoughts were on this...I usually fish with a abu, phleuger, ambassador. Etc. But on fixed income now and cant afford the high dollar good stuff for most part and was wondering has these reels are for the price.??? And input will be appreciated THANK YOU and tight lines and good fishing...
TO JPLOVICH : MY 5000 IS .AROND A 1953-54 MODEL and like yours, i clean mine every season and still works like a new one
ITS A SALTWATER FLOAT FOR TROUT ETC...
For you in your case i would strart with a ABU BLACK MAX COMBO from wally world for $49-59 bucks and its an excellent set that will last you for years to come, and you can catch bid fish also.from experience I've caught redfish pushing 20-25 lbs. as long as you have the drag set right you can catch bigger fish than that i would try this it of course it would justbe the fish swimming by that took the bait loland thats happened more than once fishing on the Mississippi gulf coast. I caught a # 48lb. 48 and a half inch redfish on an old ambassador 5000 with#14 lb.test line with cut bait at night... Thought i had a whale LOL...
I have one of those trigger reels , I've used it for catching bream and such it works well for that , but ive set it up and given to my wife for a beginner rod & reel. And she has caught catfish, trout, flounder, and even small reds , beginners luck ? I dont but I'm about to take it back cuz she's making me look bad with it LOL. But with that being said it would be a nice little set-up for quick on the catching... notice I said catching not fishing LOL !!!
Many good suggestions.that being said i would definitely start out with monofiliment and the reason i say this is because I've used baitcasters for years and have just recently switched to a #30lb.braid and it definitely takes some getting used, so i would use the advice to head out to the backyard and get the hang of it first but if you dont and just go fishing with i would take a backup rod and reel so when you get that bad bird nest you won't be there all day tri to get it out and you can just pick up your back up and keep reeling em'in. Good luck and tight lines...
I'm in biloxi,ms. and i believe it most likely has to do with the spillway opening in Louisiana all the freshwater and algae bloom jjust hang tightaand hopefully it will be over soon because i know from experience your not the only person who's upset about it ...
Here in Mississippi we call em' ground mullet and they are very good to eat ...
YES. (SHIMANO) ANYTHING WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO ... and I'm not even a rep or employee. Cross my heart , I've fished shimmano equipment my whole life and the only problem was that i didn't have enough of them or after years of use they finally wore out 😒😔
I Have lived and fished the Mississippi gulf coast my entire life , i cant advise you on any spinning set ups sounce dont use them although i know there are some.great combos out there I'm a baitcast kinda person at this time im using a.fairly cheap set-up .I'm using a phleuger monarch only$35 and a diawa 7' MH laguna, ambassador 5000 with a 6'6" Berkeley lightning rod MH. I have more just to much to list. I just wanted to say I've never had a problem catching specks, reds, flounder or even hauling a 40 lb. Black drum in with no problems. It just depends on how the equipment feels to you and you can get some really fine set ups for under. $100 . I perso3would find a reel then pair it with a good rod. I paid $35 for my reel and $40 for the rod . so good luck tight lines and remember you can catch a 20lb.redfish on 4lb. Line just as long as you have your drag set right, you can catch anything !!!
