This site has been a breath of fresh air for me. In a world where face to face communication has been replaced by cell phone staring, self indulgent nitwits, I feel like I’ve been taken back to the old days when people cared about each other. I was born and raised on the Chesapeake Bay and have been enjoying everything about the water all of my life. The home where I grew up has been kept in our family and the next generation is about to experience the joy of it all. I look forward to starting my day reading all of your posts. I’m severely handicapped now and lost my folks after 20 years helping them through some tough times. I was about to get back on the water when the Covid hit us all. I was surprised and grateful when I received a personal message from Gordon when I had surgery back in March. I miss the do you know posts from Mike and enjoy the jokes and tales from Bad Bobby and his minions. The pictures are great and Plumbbob’s daily messages are a source of encouragement to get my day off to a good start. RJS stories are good reading too. Many thanks to you all for making my life better every day.

You’re in my thoughts and prayers Ronnie. Losing loved ones is part of life that we all go through. It’s never easy and the memories of them will always be with you. You have a great support group here and hopefully our prayers and concerns will give you some comfort.

Good one Gordon. I think I was married to her once.

Nick, you’re in the fishing capital of Maryland. I’m sure there are tons of charter boats that sail out of Rockhall. There are also lots of rivers and ponds in your area that are good spots. I’m crippled up these days and I haven’t been out myself lately, but my brother fishes in your area lots of times. Tuckahoe State Park is one of his spots and he talks about Unicorn Lake that’s another. The Chester River is also close by. Check any bait shop or sporting goods store and they’ll hook you up, so to speak.

My brother went 2 weeks ago to Grays Creek on Rt. 40 east, just past the Riverside exit Rt. 543. He caught quite a few small yellow perch. If your luck is like mine, someone will tell you that you should have been here 2 weeks ago. There should be cars/trucks parked on the side of the road, if they’re catching anything. Was a good crappie spot in the past too.

Thanks Craig, I’m having eye surgery next Monday, so I won’t be fishing any time too soon. My parents had a place in Ocean View, years ago. I used to love that area, but I haven’t been there in years. I used to go to Church camp in Bethany Beach back in the 60’s.

Does Delaware have size and keeper limits on strippers? In Maryland, it changes all of the time. This past year the limit was one per person. The size varies during the year also. It makes it almost not worth the trip.

Good one pb

Too bad that we’re all wearing masks these days. Nobody knows if we’re smiling or not. Kind words will have to make up for the smile under our masks.

When I was a kid living on the water, we would use wooden bobbers shaped like channel bouys. Attached to the end of the line would be a wire spreader with 2 hooks with leaders attached. Most of the time we used minnows for bait. Sometimes, a minnow on one hook, and a worm on the other. We would cast it out and let it sit, while we would have a second rod and reel with a spinner or bait that we would reel in trying that method. That way we covered all possibilities. I loved using bobbers and still do. I would love to find the old type wooden bobber and a spreader again. Great memories!

Growing up in a waterfront home on the Chesapeake Bay, we always had boats. When I started working I had 2 boats. One for skiing and pleasure and one for fishing. Then I got married and we had our three kids in four years. Long story short, I had to sell/trade the boats for a station wagon. My mom passed away last year, and fortunately my nephew got the house from me and my brother. So the house is still in the family and I still have the pier to fish from. I’ve been divorced for 24 years and spent most of that time helping my aging parents. I’ve been getting my gear back together and hopefully I’ll get back to wetting lines soon again. I’ve been looking at boats every day since I retired 6 years ago, but health and other issues keep stalling my efforts.

Flytier, Do you go to Cabellas in Christiana? That’s where I’ve been going to the last few years. They have ton’s more fishing gear since they’ve been taken over by Bass Pro Shop. It’s hard to find anything that’s not made in China, but that’s almost everything anymore. Good choice if you happen to have one nearby.

We had ships come to the coal pier from the Great Lakes. They were bringing the Zebra Mussels from there. There were people coming from the Smithsonian Institute when those ships came in to study them. I never heard anything from their studies. I was loading a ship one day and there were Rockfish(stripers) side by side at the water line eating something off of the side of the ship. They were from bow to stern, really enjoying their meal. I assume they were mussel spats attached to the ship. It was a sight to see.

Hi Paul, My parents used to have a place in Oceanview. I used to like to fish the Indian River Inlet or go to the Ocean City Inlet. I also took a charter out of Lewes and fished the Delaware Bay. Caught a good variety of fish at all of those locations. Welcome aboard and enjoy the nice fall weather.

I worked at a coal export terminal in Baltimore. I saw on 2 different occasions, praying mantises that were at least a foot long, probably longer. I’m not sure if they were native to the area or caught a ride in on a train or ship from some foreign land. Unfortunately, it was before cell phone cameras, so you all only have my word on this. My guess is that if they were females, they would have no problem ripping a male to pieces. They’re really fun to watch.

I quit watching sports several years ago. There are better things to do with my time. There is too much BS involved for me. There’s too much individual, look at me, demonstrating after plays. They are playing a team sport and don’t need to grandstand and show off for the camera’s just because they made a tackle, or caught a pass. Good sportsmanship went out the window years ago. The roughing penalties after the whistle are stupid and totally uncalled for. Now, they’re disrespecting the Flag that people gave their life for and disrespecting the American people. If I were Vince Lombardi’s family, I would have them remove his name from the Super Bowl trophy. He never would have put up with the crap I see going on in the game today. I can’t stand seeing stupid fans supporting those overpaid, self promoting a-holes, like they’re something special.
