Praying mantis. I used to put grasshoppers on a branch in front of one to see them catch and eat them.

SMIHRP. One of these is named after the critter

The females have the delightful habit of decapitating the males after sex... Must still be worth it, seeing as they have yet to go extinct

They are also very effective at aphid control in the garden (besides grasshoppers). The largest I have ever seen was about 2 1/2 inches long which is a pretty big bug in my estimation.

The only things that get that big out here are Centipedes. Anyway Mantises are good bugs to have around. 😃

See a lot of em here in my back yard in my little garden. 4 inches or so is pretty common. I don't have a lot of other bugs. Wonder why?

Well, one thing one can say about male praying mantis. They certainly are submissive to their partners. Just Sayin....RJS
