Ok, this is something I only share with people who buys my fishing rods from me. I hear alot about different scents, and different baits, it works for them and it works for me to put more and bigger fish in the boat. Fish hunt prey by sight, smell, sound and vibration. If they hear it feel it they will come to it. That's when smell comes in. If they don't like the smell there not going to hit it. Rubber jigs soak up any bad things they touch. When you open a brand new pack of plastics or rubber jigs, they smell like rubber. You can mask it somewhat but they still smell like rubber and plastic.the trick is, get rid of any and all scent or smell. Rubber, cigarettes, gas, mustard ,boogers what ever is on your hands. I use only one thing..... And I catch alot if fish when no one else is. And big fish. It's called Boraxo twenty mule team hand soap. I have cases of it..get an old coffee can or small bucket put a couple of inches of water in it. And a couple table spoons of soap in and mix it up. New stuff I let soak for about 10-15 seconds. The rubber and factory smell is gone. By the time you've cranked a couple turns the soap washes off. Leaving a scent free jig in front of a fish. Everytime I touch my jig I dip it back in the soap. And go again. It's worth a try. It works.

That's something you mention that particular brand soap, my wife and I are not well off, nor do we make allot of money. My wife Kelly makes or laundry soap with this and a few other ingredients and I promise you I have been known to buy some pretty pricey laundry soap in my days but those do not clean nearly as well as the home made soap she makes, with that being said knowing what I know about fishing even washing your hands in this soap will help take the unpleasant odor from your hands before handling you lure/bait prior to casting. I have done this for years and have always had better results than those fishing with or near me.

I guess I must be one lucky feller, my wife bless her heart cannot eat fish. Poor lady is allergic to em, that just makes more for me and I know it, but that does not slow my fishing habit down, not even a little bit. But this darn back surgery I had last week doesn't help, but this weekend I plan on being on the water catching myself another meal.

Do like my friends so in a nearby place I frequent, shoot them either with a 22 rifle or a pellet gun. Works well for us and we don't have to worry about them lol. Just saying

Going for a long cast one night late and line wailing though the air and an owl got Tangled in the line after getting it to the area I was fishing, cut the line from his wings and released it without incident to owl but my arms weren't so fortunate.

DNR: What to Do When You See a Snake:

As spring hits full stride, John Jensen will begin answering more calls and emails about snakes.
But most will involve two questions: What species is this and what do I do with it?

As for the first, seldom is the snake a venomous species, said Jensen, a senior wildlife biologist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and co-author of “Amphibians and Reptiles of Georgia.”

Whether it’s venomous, of course, is the concern or fear underlying most of the questions. Chances are it’s not, Jensen said. Only six of the 46 species native to Georgia are venomous and only one of those—the copperhead—usually thrives in suburban areas, which is where the majority of Georgians live.

“Although every county in the state is within the range of at least one venomous snake species, there is nowhere in the state that venomous species even come close to outnumbering non-venomous species.”

The best thing if you're scared of snakes as most of us are to a certain point, if you happen to crap yourself just get far enough away before cleaning yourself up. I've been on River Banks and boat ramps and snakes have been known to come up to me and take or try to take my cut bait from in front of me. So please use caution as to what bait (s) you leave laying around. They eat some of the same things we fish with. And first time it happened I waited until I was home to take care of that problem, I was more prepared the next time it several times it happened.

I personally do not like the idea of pliers when holding catfish, I've always gripped them below the fins or if they were to large for that would put fingers in bottom lips. After taking fingers out of enough mouths that drew enough blood, I wisened up and started using gloves. It's a principal thing.

If it is metal, I have a welder and repair is myself, but if you're not a Craftsman or similar take it to a welding shop and have the hole welded on and resurfaced and painted. If it is fiberglass, again I repair my own, but p person who does fiberglass repair can patch it, sand and paint it to original. Either one of these repairs shouldn't cost over a few hundred dollars. Good luck, I hope you get it repaired soon.

When I was about 8-9 years old, many moons back, I caught two bluegill perch in Clayton New Mexico that were over 10 inches in length each. We were sitting out in an area that there wasn't so much moss you couldn't fish, fishing for trout with red colored salmon eggs when I caught these two fish. They looked like twins and I've caught thousands of bluegill since but never saw any near that size.
