Unless you’re talking about venomous snakes I wouldn’t worry too much about them. They don’t want to be anywhere near you either.

No. Just pay attention where you put your hands and feet.

I doubt you could scare them away. Although they’re just as afraid of you as you are of them unexpected encounters can happen so just remain calm and back away if you see one. Just keep an eye out and keep your distance as best as possible.

Also not every snake is venomous. Don’t be that guy who tries to kill a snake because it’s a snake.

Oh god you’re in Australia that changes everything. Don’t go fishing. If the snakes don’t get you the fish will. If you must go, bring a spear with you. No reason to let the snakes get too close and it’ll be a good defense against the kangaroos if you forget your boxing gloves. At the very least wear body armor. Can’t risk a Roo taking a shot at you with a knife

Just don’t step on them, if you don’t bother them they won’t bother you. Wear tall boots as a precaution if you feel it’s necessary

Snakes hate organic chemicals like gasoline, paint thinner, pesticides etc. Cheap insecticide might work. I've never tried it. Please don't do anything stupid with flammable liquids or poison yourself with insecticide. Snakes are less dangerous.

Take care when moving about and accept that you are in the snake's part of the world. Not much really deters snake's, those stupid vibration things that get sold at Bunnings actually seem to attract them

If you do encounter one Browns and taipans are the only snake's I have come across that will have a go at you, everything else just wants to get away. A two metre length of 32mm or 38mm black poly works well killing snakes if you really have to

Only true answer to your question was make a lot of noise. Not very encouraging was it? So easy to get caught up in the moment of a catch you could easily come across one while reeling and then the decision will be you, the fish, or slimy snake?

Bottom line, there is nothing guaranteed to warn off snakes when you are in their habitat. Might just want to get a craft or a spot in the no snake zone.

DNR: What to Do When You See a Snake:

As spring hits full stride, John Jensen will begin answering more calls and emails about snakes.
But most will involve two questions: What species is this and what do I do with it?

As for the first, seldom is the snake a venomous species, said Jensen, a senior wildlife biologist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and co-author of “Amphibians and Reptiles of Georgia.”

Whether it’s venomous, of course, is the concern or fear underlying most of the questions. Chances are it’s not, Jensen said. Only six of the 46 species native to Georgia are venomous and only one of those—the copperhead—usually thrives in suburban areas, which is where the majority of Georgians live.

“Although every county in the state is within the range of at least one venomous snake species, there is nowhere in the state that venomous species even come close to outnumbering non-venomous species.”
