Ok, this is something I only share with people who buys my fishing rods from me. I hear alot about different scents, and different baits, it works for them and it works for me to put more and bigger fish in the boat. Fish hunt prey by sight, smell, sound and vibration. If they hear it feel it they will come to it. That's when smell comes in. If they don't like the smell there not going to hit it. Rubber jigs soak up any bad things they touch. When you open a brand new pack of plastics or rubber jigs, they smell like rubber. You can mask it somewhat but they still smell like rubber and plastic.the trick is, get rid of any and all scent or smell. Rubber, cigarettes, gas, mustard ,boogers what ever is on your hands. I use only one thing..... And I catch alot if fish when no one else is. And big fish. It's called Boraxo twenty mule team hand soap. I have cases of it..get an old coffee can or small bucket put a couple of inches of water in it. And a couple table spoons of soap in and mix it up. New stuff I let soak for about 10-15 seconds. The rubber and factory smell is gone. By the time you've cranked a couple turns the soap washes off. Leaving a scent free jig in front of a fish. Everytime I touch my jig I dip it back in the soap. And go again. It's worth a try. It works.

Thanks for sharing, Egg. Where do you buy it? I showed it to my wife and asked her if she has ever seen it in stores and she hasn't.

" Boraxo twenty mule team "

Who remembers their commercials from back in the day. Can still see it while watching the old black and white TV.

That was the first thing that came to mind when you said that. They were the sponsor of the show. All about hauling the borax out if Death Valley . That was the name of the show. Death Valley Days.

I'll have to see if I can find some. I usually carry one of the laundry detergent bottles with a spigot filled with water. There's enough soap residue to make hand wash but it still carries a scent. The other thing I've used borax for was degreasing duck skins I saved for tying flies. Helped preserve the skin.

I order all mine off the internet I can't find it in stores. Like Flytier said works on duck skins. But it also works to preserve color in fish skins if you want to get a fish mounted. Right away cover the fish with Boraxo and wrap it in a towel before the fish dies. And at the end if the day empty your live Wells, coolers fish boxes shake some in and it eliminates fishy smell.good stuff.

Welcome.
Are you a shellback because you have crossed the equator on a ship?
