What is the worst foul hook or accidental hook you have ever had?

For me, my worst accidental hook was a beaver. I was ripping a Texas rig through the weeds of the canal that goes through my back yard and thought I hit a snag, that is until it started slowly peeling off line (even after tightening my drag). I fought it back and forth, I would take about 10 feet and it would take about 5 and then I saw this 3 foot long beaver (including the tail) hooked behind its tail. I wound up calling someone and getting scissors and cutting the line as close as possible. The whole while the beaver was slapping its tail and drawing a really big crowd.

I felt so bad after.

one time a turtle bit my frog lure, then the biggest striper i have ever seen ate the turtle and snapped my line instantly.

Man, I cannot imagine how bad you must have feeled that day. Poor beaver and poor you.

My storys are harmless compared. Had a frog go after my wet-fly, once. The next thing I saw was a flying frog, but I think it wasnt hurt physically. Mentally though... I can imagine the frog questioning its whole existence.

I hooked a sculpin right in its belly while jigging. Felt bad for the little guy. He may have wound up as sturgeon food

I had a crawfish grab my hook with its pincher when soaking corn for carp. I was able to reel it up and grab him. He stayed pinched on the hook.

Try catching a 20# southern ray in the wing with a stingsilver on a light rod while fishing for Spanish mackerel . That little 7 footer got a workout that day.

My grandson caught his 230# grandfather a while back. That wasn't a good thing.

Caught a seagull once while surf fishing. They will go after your bait when casting. He wasn’t hooked but got tangled in my line. It was a true catch & release success story.

Only once. They're not too bad. The worst I ever had was a pelican. That hook on their beak can be lethal.

Mine was when I was fishing in Chicago in Jackson Park Harbor snagging salmon... I casted and hooked into the canvas top of a 30 foot Lake Cruiser. I was fishing a 8’ fiberglass pole with 60 pound monofilament fishing line. The type of lure was a size 14 treble hook that was molded with a 2 ounces of lead with the three prongs exposed. The concept too cast out into the water and let the lure go all the way to the bottom. Then crank in real slowly until you hooked into a salmon by foul hooking into the side of the fish. When you hooked into one you had the fight of your life. It almost impossible to bring the fish in because of where it was hooked. Well anyway the fishing line broke because of all the kinks in it. Now for the rest of the story... I re-tied another snag hook casted out and one of the kinks shorten my cast and the snag hook landed on top of the boat and got stuck into the top. For the life of me I couldn’t undo the hook and in fear of the line breaking I decided to go get my snag hook. There were some other fisherman in the lagoon and I got there attention and they motored over to me. I got into their boat 🚣‍♀️ and took me to the boat that my snag hook was stuck into. I climbed up into the boat at a location that gave me access. Then I had to find a way to get to the location that my hook was stuck. The only choice I had because the boat had a half cover tied down to it was to try and walk on the side rails. Guess what the park security had received a call that three guys were braking into one of the boats. I was still standing on the side rail trying to Un hook my lure. The two fisherman who gave me a ride to the boat were waiting for me to finish. The security officers started question the two guys in the boat asking what was going on. We told them and they saw the snag hook stuck into the top of the boat. I got very nervousand almost slipped off of the rail. I finally got it unhooked and into to boat and back on shore. They let the two fisherman go and gave me a warning ticket stating if I ever did that again that I would be in serious trouble.

1973, Monterey Bay CA, with the local sport fleet after bonita (small tuna) by trolling herring & squid at the school as the fish devastated the sardines migrating through the area. The victim wasn't me; it was some Central Valley showoff who brought his 200+ HP ski boat and spent most of the afternoon randomly roaring among all the other trollers, fouling lines, endangering smaller boats with swamping runs all the while swearing because his racing runs weren't getting any bites. On one of his passes, he crossed his heavy-duty gear with another boater, so he slowed and an argument started to ensue just as they untangled--when he finally got a bite on his huge bait. His "bite" turned out to be one of those huge Monterey Sea Lions, who had taken the bonita he had just snagged and decided to head to Castroville (a nearby farming town) stripping hi-load line all the way. High horsepower or not, Mr. Big got to take a backwards tour of the fishing area as the beast hauled him in reverse toward shore. We all laughed to see justice delivered, but just about then I hooked my first pelican ever on my last piece of squid, and got to play dueling beaks with one very indignant critter. Somehow I lost track of the other guy.

My son and I were bank fishing in a bayou one morning, just taking a kid fishing really. He had gotten behind me rebating as I made a cast and I hooked him in the eyelid. Imagine the horror that hit me! Son was 9 at the time. After looking and making sure he still had eyesight and was not as bad as I thought,he said daddy just get the hook out so we can fish some more. Till this day that bothers me.

Well, many years ago in Raleigh, N.C. on Falls Lake, fishing for bass with a buddy and we were both worm fishing and all of a sudden, bass were busting the surface near by due to a school of shad.

We were trying to angle the boat to get better positioned to cast into the whole frenzy and about that time, the boat swung around Just as my buddy reared back to make a long cast. I yelled as I felt his line and rig start up my back..........Too late, He embedded a 4/0 Gamakotsy worm hook right into the curled upper edge of my ear.

Point was buried inside the skin. He was sorry but wanted to keep on fishing and started to re-rig. I said...we are going back to shore and I'm gonna see about getting this hook removed.

Went to Docs office with the hook still in ear and about 3 feet of mono hanging down my shirt still attached to the hook. It seems Drs do not have wire cutters on hand like most of us do. His heavy duty scissors or what ever he was using would just snap closed sideways without doing any damage to the hook. Finally, after calling in his associate doctors there so they could all enjoy the show.........somehow they got it out.

Was not fun.
