Try FishUSA before Amazon. I have gotten better prices and great service from those guys!
Without treating it in warm water.
Which mono do y'all like best and why?
Currently I like XL, but have been considering checking out some other brands.
I am a St. Croix guy myself. FishUSA has them in stock for 109. Bass X are good rods but I would suggest spending a little more and get the MOJO Bass. But the fish aren't going to complain either way :-)
LOL, that is a nice gobbler! Might have been suicidal... ;-)
Even if you just have to pull it off in your yard, do it and put a little tension on it and reel it back in . That should solve your problem (until the next time, lol). When Jesus said, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." He could've been talking about fishin'....
That some good eatin' right there! Next to sac-au-lait they are my favorite fresh water fish. Glad y'all had a blast!
I recommend you watch some videos on how to set up your baitcaster and you'll learn some tips on how to set your reel up. With brakes off, your tension knob must be tight or you are VERY good with your thumb if you aren't back-lashing all over the place. Watch several different guys and you'll learn a little extra tip from most of them. Put on a heavier lure and set your reel up, and cast away! Your distance should improve about 30 feet at least.
When you are learning, use mono, maybe 12 lb. Trilene XL. It'll work great for your average fish and WHEN (not IF) you back-lash it won't be so expensive if you need to cut it out.
I had to stop hunting turkey. It is humbling to find out that a bird is smarter than you are. :-/
I have been skunked many more times than I like to admit, so I ain't gonna feel sorry for you only catching one (HUGE) fish LOL!!
Did you weigh that fish? Looks like Moby's cousin in the photo.

That’s really good to hear. Yep, I miss that part of the country.
LOL. Jerry Clower, that brings back memories! I grew up in East Feliciana, not that far from Liberty MS. Pass through Liberty and East Fork every time we visit and go to the Dinner Bell in McComb. I sure hope the Dinner Bell survives this virus crude!
Jerry was a great guy! Passed entirely too young.
It's Louisiana, lol! Maybe it is foreign:-)
I heard an old cajun talking about how he had crawfished "all over these United States!" and he started naming the places. Every place he named was in Louisiana, lol! Then he said, "I even crawfished in Mississippi!"
Oh, I thought you meant sac-au-lait, lol!
Most of us use rods that are longer than we are tall. If you are comfortable with it, use it. You won't cast as far with a shorter rod, but that isn't going to matter as much if you are fishing from a boat. If from the bank, use as long a rod as you can unless you are fishing under trees or some such.
