My wife wants to go fishing Saturday, we are talking Silver Lake (1-1/2+ hours away), higher elevation (cooler), more boaters, 3 people telling me boaters are slamming trout as in limited out on decent but smaller trout in an hour or so...

Or the 45 minutes away option (Pardee)...no watersports including even swimming, so it's exclusively a fishing lake with few boats on the water, it has been fishing very well in the morning with early boats limited by ten or eleven and a continuing slower bite past then, and it produces very decent fish in the 3 to 5+ range...and then there are Kokanee to try jigging for that we can keep an eye out for the schools while trolling.

I just talked myself into the 45 minute away option

Hi my name is Laurie, and I am new to the group and fairly new to fishing. We are going to launch our boat out of Richmond marina tmro morning and head towards Alcatraz.
Any tips, advice, coordinates??😊🐠

My best luck for Halibut has been right off Angel Island. Draw a straight line between Alcatraz and Angel Island, fish the 100-300 yards off the Island. The paradise area off the Tiburon penisula can do well. Go early were in the afternoon windy season. Good luck

Hello to all,
I have an itch to by a Beretta here in middle Tn. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good place to purchase a new or used Beretta. I am looking at the 92FS.... There are so many options with the Beretta 9mm. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I was in my local sporting goods ( N. California ) and they were all out of 9mm and 40 cal was cheaper and plenty of it ? Don't know if this is a trend or just one store ?

Like I said 100 pulleys alone does not create mechanical advantage. Look up " block and tackle " If you put a pulley on top of the trap you would make 2/1 meaning 50 lbs trap would need 25lbs of pull. That in-turn requires 2x the rope. So a trap at 50' would now need 100' of rope.

I don't know how much this might work, but try running your crab pot line through a bunch of pulleys. The pulleys will help lighten the load and make it easier to pull up the pots.

Just running rope through pulleys does not increase mechanical adavange. One or more of the pulleys needs to move with the load to get the help.

I have always bought the boot style of hip boot/wader. I have never tried the stocking foot style. Which is best is it the cost ? Of one over the other or is it better that the shoe can be a better fit????

Any one have a answer. Thank you for your input

Walking longer distance is much more comfortable in a light weight stocking foot wader, you also have many choices for the boot. You can adjust the layers of pants under them to keep you warm/cool. That's My preference for lakes and streams. In the pacific coast surf they will fill up with sand and It's terrible, there a boot foot is my preference.

That is fantastic. 3 lb-ers are what you want but never get. You hit the mother load.

I recently purchased a couple of used flyrods at an auction. \When I put them together, the metal ferrals on both seemed to stick together and be difficult to take them apart. w
What are some good solutions for this problem?

I rub paraffin / candle wax on all my ferrules. Works to protect from corrosion, lube for easy connection and helps hold them together. When the top half of my spinning rod flys off, It's past time to re apply

On Tuesday this week launched out of Anderson, motored up river a bit and found holding Trout/steelhead. We made 20 or so passes through the same hole with an Indicator ( bobber ) and a 3 fly weighted setup. Got multiple hits and netted one, sometimes two each pass. The fish were mostly 18-22" and thick, not leader shy as we used 10lb line. I've driven over this river many, many, many times and this was my first time.
I say trout/steelhead because they looked like very colorful rainbow trout but some had no spots below the lateral line and I was informed those have some steelhead blood. No photos yet, my buddy has not sent them.

The concept of the ladders are to reach closer to the drop offs. You carry the ladder as far as you feel comfortable. The other purpose is it gets you out of the very cold water. That said many are caught from shore with waders and without ladders

You're correct but.........
.
I like to crab out of Bodega Bay but only about every other season . So I get a license in November when the season starts and then I need to get one in January. So for me to fish one season I need to purchase two licenses. If I went every year it would not make a difference, but I don't crab consecutive years mostly.

Spiritof27 is correct. I use my 8wt to cast dry and popper flies to large mouth because I need to pull them through lots of weeds and this works very well.

Hello everyone! I feel pretty ignorant asking this, but I’m a newbie to fly fishing, like wet behind the ears newbie. My question is this; is there a different method/ system/ cast, etc. for left handed fly fishing vs. right handed? Im very left hand dominant. Any help here would be appreciated please!

Sunijo,

I've been fly fishing for 50 years as a dominant lefty. So I cast with my left and reel with my right. I can set up all my reels for this without any Lefty special. Just remember the drag on a reel will only work in one direction. Technique is the same as I have introduced many to fly casting and none have been left handed. Casting with my opposite hand is very limited and few can do that. Think about playing Baseball, golf, tennis etc with your opposite hand.

Is their an advantage to going towards fluorescent colors vs. more earthy colors? I’ve managed to find both sides of the argument online but I am curious in some more first hand accounts.

Colored lines can help me interpret how i'm presenting, especially when swinging wet flies/nymph/streamers to trout. So I tend to use them more often. I don't think the color of the line spooks the fish. If you're starting out, learning how to present is everything in fly fishing
