California has a new fishing license that is now a 365 day license, so it is now good for a year from when you purchase it. Finally California got something right.

This is an old topic. Look, it doesn't matter when you get your license, it's good for a year, whether you get it from Jan 1 to Dec 31 all the months of a year are covered, the same is true if you get it on July 31 to June 1st, it's a year, all the months are covered no matter when you get it, you're just arguing over semantics.

In California, our license was from January 1st to December 31st. So if you got your license on July 31st it still expired on December 31st.
Now it's gonna be valid for 1 year from date of purchase. So you get a full years worth of fishin whenever you purchase a license.
HOWEVER, you have to remember what day you purchased your license now to make sure you get it renewed on time.
I'll still be gettin mine on January 1st. 😁👍

Yes, but then why would you get the license in July? unless it was your first attempt to ever get a license in California, so Ok, your first license was in July, after that you buy the license in Jan for the remainder of your life in Calif. There were times I waited till March to get a license in Calif, I didn't care it ended at the end of Dec, I just always tried to get a new license in Jan.

Sounds GOOD to me. In Washington it’s April. Oregon is January-December but I could handle the whatever date deal. Here is all Electronic now too. But many times don’t end up fishing for few months so I would dig it. You should not have to remember because it’s on your license or computer as record.

That's the way ours has always been, January 1st -December 31st. I would think that's easier to remember than some random day, but that's just my opinion.

Not in california until this year. Last year (2020) if you bought you license on December 31st, it was no good on Jan 1 2021. Didn't matter when you bought it, it expired on the 1st day of new year. So no, it ain't an old topic in this state.

Lot of folks wait until they can afford to get a new one. Because like here in the golden state, it can be almost like making a mortgage payment.

Still states do that. MD was that why but changed to date to date. Even for nonresident. I get n email telling me when I'm due. Pa lifetime so I have no worries there 👍👍
