My hands are crippled for tying fancy knots, i use a simple figure 8 knot and a bit of superglue.
Save a few bucks and get a Fin-Nor reel, all stainless steel gears, awesome line lay, more drag then the rest and almost indestructible.
Maybe 1 turn on the spool over the line.

If you're throwing 8oz leads, you're stressing that combo beyond what it's designed for. The rod is rated at 1/4-1 1/2 ounces. Every time you use it to jig 8ozs, you're put a ton of strain on it and damaging the rod. You're breaking down the graphite inside the rod, so although you might not see physical damage on the outside, it's there. Eventually the rod will pop. The term is bruising the blank, and when it pops it'll sound like a shotgun. I'd suggest a rod designed for jigging like a Shimano Trevala.
As to the reel, you can upgrade the drag washers to Carbontex. Quality braid will make a big difference as well. If you can do it, I'd swap the reel out as well. A Shimano Twinpower 6000 or Avet SX(conventional) would be a good choice.
Probably not the answer you want to hear.

You didn't say if salt or fresh, but my most versatile rod by far is a 7 foot medium Sturdy Stick with a cheap Kast King 4000 reel or a 70 year old penn 155, loaded with 30-50 pound braid. It's solid glass, can dead lift a concrete block ,sensitive enough for flounder and strong enough for bluefish and big stripers and the occasional shark or codfish. I think you can drive a truck over it but if it does break who cares it's a 29 dollar rod .'m 69 years old and can remember my dad and unkles using split bamboo boat rods t o catch more fish than anyone I ever knew. Fishin is mostly fisherman/knowledge and very little what gear they use.I've seen my dad and even myself catch big stripers on flounder rigs
Max drag on a 6000 batle is 25 #but if u are like most of us you wil thumb the spool to slow a giant fish and take yer chances if yer line is running out. The stretch/shock and abrasion resistance of mono is useful for not ripping a hook out when you are using heavy braid on smaller fish.
I doubt if a car body shop knows as much as i do about boat paint.I worked for 20 years at Fairhaven Marina in Mass. I ended up running the prop shop ,and doing engine alignments, but for 8 years I did the Awl Grip painting on top sides. That said, Imron is a very good paint almost as good.
Tobasco? I hope that's an attempt at being funny!!! Tobasco is mostly water and water and 2 part epoxy don't mix ! Please use everything from 1 manufacturer, from pre wash, to dewaxer, to thinner, and catalyst, If you need anti fouling, get it from the same ppl. Follow the directions exactly including time between coats. Yup , awlgrip is as good as it gets for protecting yer boat, and if you look at a repaint in those terms, it's not expensive if labor is your own time !!!!

Me too! I had a buddy that had a camper about that size inside a WWII landing barge with 2 , 6-71 detroit diesels. He could drive it right to a beach and drive off on his dual purpose motorcycle( on and off road). He ran it all over Buzzards Bay.
It sounds like it's not getting on plane. Adjust the tilt to lift the bow.
