Went out to try for Halibut after hearing reports of good fishing. Trolled frozen herring, caught 2 at incoming tide and 1 late afternoon. Fish were 24-26”. Buddy broke his 25# braid on something large, he fought it for a few minutes but we never saw what it was. He is respooling with larger line since there is a possibility of large fish in the bay. Overall good day and nice weather.
Sounds like a good fight on the Sturgeon
Nice fish, thanks for the report
Yes it’s slowed down some. the commercial guys are catching a lot of crab which is good for them since their season was started so late. I launch by Spud point in Bodega bay and they were off loading a lot of crab.
Yes they are still alive at deeper depths
Good idea on shortening the length of the cord when I reload the cylinder.
The crab flags are homemade markers I made, they are good for rougher water and swells, the extra buoys also help keep the first buoy from being pulled under on bigger swells. I also added yellow as it is easier to see on rough days.
Took a few buddies out crabbing, we caught about 50 undersized crab so we moved around a lot to find bigger ones.
Ended the day with 18 keepers and a few over 7”. We were in 90’ to 190’ of water outside the bay.
Had some excitement as I threw a crab trap in.the net caught my live vest release and deployed it, it was quite loud and it gets very tight around your neck very quickly. I ordered a rearming kit so I can put it back in service.
Nice job, lots of good eating
My crab traps were the same way, thanks for the good info and pictures!
