My grandson has asked me to teach him how to tie a few knots. I thought I would share them here along the way. I'll try to get at least one new one out every week.
As a mariner, former rock climber and member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers, I know quite a few. Some are crappy -- some are quite good. I won't post a knot that I wouldn't trust with my life.
This one is the Double-Overhand Slip/Loop knot. When it is dressed/finished properly and snugged, it is a very reliable knot -- if not properly dressed/finished, it tends to fail. The unusual way (compared to the ABK-516 method) that I show makes it significantly easier to consistently properly dress/finish the knot--especially in stiff cord.
This knot can usually be untied unless it's been put under heavy strain or tied in thin line/cord. I've included pictures on how to untie.
Form a loop
Cross the tag end over
Tuck it under
Bring it over and towards the loop
Tuck it under both parts of the loop
Push it through the topside of the loops where they cross (should look like a figure-8)
Dress/finish -- the outer loop should cross on top and center of the twist the snug it up
Here's what the flip side looks like
Example of a poorly dressed/finished knot on my out-of-the-box Promar
What it looks like retied

Here's how to untie it.
Orient the knot so that the two parallel loops facing you
Work the loops apart (out and away)
Flip it over
Twist (top-right down towards bottom-left). Should be loose enough to undo--if not repeat

What's worse is that there's a couple of anchors listed on Amazon that come the same way -- all of the negative reviews are due to the knot.
