My theory about Mayan cichlids is they definitely came for aquariums but I believe they are the result of hurricanes you can take your bird, dogs, cat's.
But who takes their fish?
When a hurricane hits their is standing water every where as well as toppled aquariums.
After hurricane Ian there were fish in my drainage ditches until they dried up or the birds ate them.

Did you get the bonnet Head inside Bull's bay.
I fished that same day on the flats at Port Charlotte City winds we're 15 to 20
We boated 5 trout 1 legal.
More fishing than catching.
Sloppy ride home.

To windy to fish outside our canal's.
So we grabbed some live shrimp and did some sight fishing.
My self and my granddaughter and her boyfriend set out to put some fish in the boat. We found a wind protected shoreline with Reed's and spawning bed's
We put 30 Mayan cichlids in the boat.
We also caught a giant blue gill.
Fish tacos tonight.
I don't like fresh water fish but the Mayan cichlid is very tasty.

MM my experience with the no seems is similar to yours.
I'm at top of the menu.
And the bite is tormenting.
I get relief from quickly from Allegra.

Trout in the grass flats in 2.5 to 5 feet of water. White swim baits work for me.

My experience with lady fish is after she gives you a tarponesk battle she will poop All over your boat and that's before you touch her and as soon as you touch her she goes into minstrel cycle and bleeds everywhere she didn't poop.

That's why I'm here.
Any time you're shore fishing Sand flea's are a great bait.
You will know them as sand crabs.

Good afternoon GL. My suggestion is to go to fishing Frank's in Port Charlotte on 41
They can get you set up with bait tackle and let you know where they would fish.
They are not afraid to give you good information.
If it's your first time I would get a guide he will get you on fish.
