To windy to fish outside our canal's.
So we grabbed some live shrimp and did some sight fishing.
My self and my granddaughter and her boyfriend set out to put some fish in the boat. We found a wind protected shoreline with Reed's and spawning bed's
We put 30 Mayan cichlids in the boat.
We also caught a giant blue gill.
Fish tacos tonight.
I don't like fresh water fish but the Mayan cichlid is very tasty.

Never heard of them before. Looks like a big bream.

Talking about tasty aquarium fish, I just watched a Tim Allen movie called Jungle 2 Jungle that has a scene about that. If you haven't seen it, it's worth checking out. It's hilarious.

Good morning Gordon they're just like tilapia they're everywhere in South Florida easy to catch and very good eating if you get them out of clean water, 🎣🎣

Mike Rowe ruined my appetite for Tilapia when he did an episode on Dirty Jobs. I can't get that picture out of my head.
Rhe cichlids are a typical problem in Florida. Somebody had some out fish and git tired of feeding g him, so th r y dumped them onto the nearest body of water.
I was surprised and didn't think you were really eating aquarium fish!
When we lived in the Rio Grande Valley, we had a Mexican house maid to cook and clean.
Once when we were gone, the light over the aquarium burned out, and so she decided to replace it with a 60 watt bulb! Of course, the heat cooked all the fish in the tank. She didn't know the replacement bulb would create too much heat for the fish! Just Sayin...RJS
Great fishing and catching. Always nice to have a place to layup when
Mr. Wind gets grumpy😂
As for eating, the last freshwater fish I ate was a northern pike from the St Lawrence River.
I catch and release fresh water fish but if you got them from brackish or somewhat clean water you should be OK.👍👍

I like having a clean pond to catch and eat my own fresh water fish from..🎣🎣 I don't even let my cow's in this pond behind the house, it's just for fishing and cook out's 🎣
Need more like u. Take care of the wonderful natural recourses
that have been given to us.👍👍
My theory about Mayan cichlids is they definitely came for aquariums but I believe they are the result of hurricanes you can take your bird, dogs, cat's.
But who takes their fish?
When a hurricane hits their is standing water every where as well as toppled aquariums.
After hurricane Ian there were fish in my drainage ditches until they dried up or the birds ate them.
