Went out with a friend today and it took him a half hour to do it but he landed it (sort of). 5 plus feet black tip shark. It’s still out there for someone else to catch still

Your friend caught a nice one, it was definitely a good day on the water.

How did he lasso it on the tail?
Nice catch.
I'm going out Tuesday.

Broke his net and he then tail wrapped it to take the hook out. Brave man. I watched from my boat

Yes, I caught, tagged and released a blacktip shark in Manasquan Inlet with an Ava jig a few years ago.

Tail roping is common when shark or tuna fishing, to control the fish, or lift them into the boat. Aftco even sells a tailer,to use in place of the rope.

Nice…that looks like it will work Fred.

Watch Wicked Tuna on Sunday nights, you will see how they tail rope. My favorite fishing series, a new season just started a couple weeks ago.

I have watched in the past. Interesting for someone who lives(mostly) far from any deep ocean. At the risk of starting a regional argument, I quit watching that show due to the constant beeping of the foul language and the heavy eastern accent. I could not understand what the people were saying & it finally got to the point that it was no longer watchable with the subtitles and beeping.
The fishing methods/style & the equipment needed was impressive, as were many of the catches. Not something just anyone can show up for and perform properly, I’d wager.

I don’t live too far from the ocean, can make the drive to OCMD in four hours and usually surf and bay fish there a bunch of times per year. Have been out on charter and head boats from both MD and VA a bunch of times too.

I agree with you about how impressive the methods/style, equipment are, along with many of the catches. Also, yes, for it taking many times out fishing with those guys to learn the proper techniques to catch those tuna. Most of those guys and girls (there is an all-woman crew) have been ocean fishing most of their lives.

The beeping on Wicked Tuna has settled somewhat from when it debuted, and I was going to say to use closed caption (CC) on your TV to help understand what is being said, but you already tried that.

Give it another try; you may like it better this time around, it’s always nice to see those big tuna being caught along with the occasional thresher shark whipping its tail onto the boat.

Your watching people fishing in the ocean and they talk like sailors. Hmm. Sounds fishy to me.
