I’m going home this weekend, hopefully I will have to hit it the lake and see how the bass are biting.
Weekend I’ll be drifting the Yuba. I understand there’s a good hatch going on.
It might be a little colder than the last time I was there, but I catch nice fish every time.
Thank you. For the info.
Here’s my kayak.
This was off shore west side of Oahu
I have a Kayak also. Al though I use it primarily for offshore fishing now. I would load a pic but i guess you can only do that when you start a topic.
That’s a Fishcat Cougar. It’s about 15y old. 8’ and will hold around 250 to 300lbs.
Been on overnight trips with it a few times.
The best part is I’ve never had to fix anything on it.
Fished a lot of salt too. Very little rust.
Out again no fish but what a great day on the Feather River.
I’m a Lineman. Out here working on the Butte County fire rebuild.
Fishing Lake Almanor yesterday.
I went out with great expectations. Fish Cat float tube, never been used. New pair of G-3 waders.
Went by the fly shop got all the info I would for a great day.
They told me where to fish, using a medium sinking line, which buggers / colors have been hitting. Cast at the springs let it sink and a slow strip to retrieve.
I was going to be great.
After 8 hours in the water I climbed out of my float tube with all but frozen toes. NO Fish. Not even a strike.
I have an extra spool loaded with SA sinking line. The only problem is I have no idea when I used it last. I would guess it’s somewhere around 12 to 15 years old.
It had no stretch at all, had to load the rod to cast. But the worst part was, it coiled up in my stripping basket and turned into knots every time I brought it back.
Trolling didn’t work.
We all know we need to replace our lines from time to time.
Don’t let old unused tackle ruin your day.
Try deer hair caddis in stead of elk hair.
I met a older guy while fishing the Owens below the pleasant valley damn. He turned me on to deer hair. It presents a little different than elk and works a lot better in that fishery.
Fishing off of ladders is just a way to get you above the water for better casting.
The only place I have ever seen it used is at Pyramid lake Nv.
They have two strains of cut throat trout there.
One is very large and sluggish. It was introduced by the tribe for a commercial fish I think back in the 1920s.
The other is smaller but fights like hell.
Best shore / ladder fishing Nov through Feb.
btw it windy.
Ps I’m heading to Almanor this weekend.
I work in Calif. it is around $140. for a non res license.
So far this year I haven’t payed to park or fish anywhere.
My biggest cost has been to pay an older couple to drive my truck from the Hwy 20 bridge on the So Yuba river, down river to the trailer park where I take my drift boat out.
That has been cheep.
I put new fly line on 4 different reels, bought a Winston 4 wt and a looms 6 wt with two new reals and line.
If it’s a good fishery why bitch about 20 or 30 bucks to park?
I’ve been drifting the feather on weekends. It’s not bad. Just want to try something different
I’m working in Paradise and stopped by a fishing shop and spoke with a guy that had been fishing from shore. He had some nice pic’s from the day before. Big trout on a woolly bugger.
Jump in it will be a fun ride
