Fishing Lake Almanor yesterday.
I went out with great expectations. Fish Cat float tube, never been used. New pair of G-3 waders.
Went by the fly shop got all the info I would for a great day.
They told me where to fish, using a medium sinking line, which buggers / colors have been hitting. Cast at the springs let it sink and a slow strip to retrieve.
I was going to be great.
After 8 hours in the water I climbed out of my float tube with all but frozen toes. NO Fish. Not even a strike.
I have an extra spool loaded with SA sinking line. The only problem is I have no idea when I used it last. I would guess it’s somewhere around 12 to 15 years old.
It had no stretch at all, had to load the rod to cast. But the worst part was, it coiled up in my stripping basket and turned into knots every time I brought it back.
Trolling didn’t work.
We all know we need to replace our lines from time to time.
Don’t let old unused tackle ruin your day.

Beautiful spot. Time to update some tackle and get back at it. I fell into a habit of constantly cleaning my reels and changing line often. I've had too many days like yours in the past. The need to worry about tackle can get in the way of any fishing day. Best of luck next time.

Other than fishing, what are you doin out here in California? You a ways from Lago Vista. Ain't it purdy up there?

Line... thanks for the pics. Looks like I'm going to have to reschedule my smallmouth trip to Almanor. Was planning on a couple of weeks after ice out in April. I can see the ice in is missing this year. Didn't happen to get a water temp did you?

I'm here in Oxnard CA. 12 miles by boat to the Channel Islands National Park. Such great fishing. I'm also about 30 minutes from Lake Casitas and an hour or so from Lake Castaic. The bass fishing at both lakes is awesome. Lots of great fishing around here. Retirement is such a hard life. Lol.
