hi and welcome Jafrydad,

Lots of the California folks here. Saw1 is in your area, great source for info.

I am across the mts. to ur east but west of I-5 in Stonyford. Local lakes starting 1.2 miles from my house is East Park Lake, some flat-landers call it Lake Lodoga but they are wrong. North of me in the town of Elk Creek and Stony Gorge res. and even further north is Black Butte Res. called Lake by some folks.

Many of us have fished for 60 plus years I loved the old days on the south fork of the Eel, Navaro and Guala Rivers. Lake Pillsbury was super fun and lots of fish. Have not been in at least 30 years.

BUT I was forced to retire, lady T-boned me so now I have nothing to do but start checking off my bucket list and your and Saw1's area has about 10 things I need to do.

Anyway again welcome, great group here and very no kidding info from all........ well that and some good nature ribbing and fun!!!!!!

Hope to see you on the water some day

Hi Rod,
Welcome to this Fishing Stage Site
I am a 10 to 20 % vet but nothing like you and your challenges, you are our best my friend. My wife dad lives in Coeur d'Alene and we used to get up there about every 6 mos. or so. I have not been because of a car wreak 2 yrs. ago However I want to take my bass boat this summer and fish for bass or anything. My e-mail is sjbass@stonyford.com. Drop me a contact when you have time and I am in hopes to get there this summer with the boat. We will both have to learn the waters but I assure we could get some fish and have a great time.
Thank you the many sacrifices and service to our great country you my friend are truly one in a million

Pls. do not let it get so out of hand as it has in Stupidafornia. I collected over 50 water bottles with heavy line many hooks and heavy weights at the bottom. In one year at our small lake. These people know it is wrong in our state to use a trot line. but our justice system when they are caught says oh it is that it is a cultural thing they don't know it is wrong and let them go. Over and over again.
We had a lady come to the store one morning and ask where the fish canning plant was? what??? I said with my friend. She said yes at dawn a big boat was hauling in a purse net and putting Hugh amounts of fish in smaller boats.
We do not have enough officers to be close to bust them, and on the rare times they do get them it is thrown out of court. I have seen this these people on you-tube, they have that kind of attitude.
Our lake not that long ago had largemouth bass to 15 lbs. 8 to 10 lbs. not that unusual. After years of netting the big females in the shallows, snaging them and having a boat with 6 people counting the kids. That is ten plus rods all with live bait well we have very few fish to 6 or 7 lbs. The Crappie was the best, 2 to 3lbs. in the fall and the numbers off the charts. This year I caught a few.
Do the right thing, say that's not right, then call authorities but be careful I have had my life threatened.

Hi, teckguyhotel. This is Scorchy, first I am 65 yrs. old and have fished all my life! I had very good and patient teachers, my mom and dad. I had no choice but to go when they did. And we did not have a lot of money for other things so we went often. So you need to go with someone or when you are out watch others. Now in the past 50 yrs. I have been a Guide, tournament fisherman and to this very day I get skunked from time to time. I have no idea where you are fishing at but this time of year I stop, enjoy the holidays. I repair my gear if needed, sort out the tackle, read a ton both on-line and in things called books (older folks remember those). Come mid feb. here in No. California i go for the big bass and I am happy to get 1 to 5 bites a day. Fish the senko's just like the other post, jigs with trailers white and dark colors all on structure. Have a white double willow leaf white skirt 3/8oz. spinnerbait and at a mid reel pace. Know you will get that bite don't think you will. It will all come together. Most people will tell you they sucked as I did at first using a hammer and nail but bend a ton and smack your thumb a few and you get pretty good at it.

Good evening from the left coast,
I think all the advice is super and I am not out to sound like I am not with everyone else. Because I am.But I have an old boat that is kinda the exception.
2 days ago I had my Ranger 372V out for the last it till Jan. 2020 God willing and the creek don't rise.
I got in 1985 as a sponsor boat. Lots of stories from all those years but for now.... It has a 150 hp V-6 Merc Black max. that has had the standard general maintenance, fluids, impeller etc. over all these years and has never failed me. Guiding, tournaments, outdoor shows, and most importantly my kids and now the grand-kids. I did buy a 2002 Ranger with the VRO and all the buzz and whistles. Many problems with this Merc but the boat has been fine. Once again it is in the carport while good old brown boat helped me catch some nice smallies. It is in the side year with a tarp on it because for us here in Loserfornia we are having a Hugh storm, 22 degrees last night snow today. Come Jan. the tarp comes off and old reliable I hope like will make it one more year.
Again do take everyones advice they all correct I just have done pretty good and blessed by keeping this original boat that has let both of us age nicely together. Can't stop the aging but you sure can enjoy the ride.

Hi GlennMc and Saw1, Glenn is right on all the advice and strippers are showing up in the West Delta and the rivers. Disco Bay has very good fishing now that the cooler weather is starting. I am going to have my old boat down around the end of October as long as the Crappie bite at all the West Valley Lakes cools off. E-mail me at sjbass@stonyford.com by then I should have first hand info, I will also post any news. Hope to hear from you and see you out there. Scorchy

Hi Fred, I am new here also but have fished San Luis for the line sides in years past. My future Son-in-law has done very well on river salmon and told me a few days ago that spinners for some reason are working very well. But that it can change anytime. Reports from the sac. have not been good and the word is it may be a late run. I hope others will check in with more complete advice, it would help me also. I am now retired and have a medical run the last 6 or so years surviving everything from lung cancer to very bad car wreak. I decided to go back to all kinds of fishing even back to your lake, when there is low winds. If I hear anything I will post it. Scorchy

That is the spinning real to fish with many years ago. I do not know if I found one that I would fish it. Many of the older fisher persons got one for Christmas or birthday and was a very big deal.

Hi All,
I have been reading this Forum for a while and thought it was time I Introduce Myself. First Scorchy is my First name, thanks mom, lol.
I am 65 yrs. old and have fished for 60 ish years. In my youth all in Northern California, it was wonderful back then. I did have a small break from fishing time to time from 17 to 21 yrs. old u.s. military. Lived in Jacksonville, fl. then 3.5 yrs. in San Diego. Fishing every chance I got. I had fished a thing call a tournament for bass one time when I was in the south east and was hooked.
Anyway long story I was a tournament fisherman, guide, seminar speaker, outdoor writer and still found time for a 43 yrs. career as an electrician. I was very lucky to fish and meet so many wonderful people in my travels and this Forum is just right for all folks interested in all types of fishing. The seems to be some very kind and giving answers to all types of questions without the biting remarks I see on other sites.
Enough for now--- Pete you are right lots of rules here in the Golden State but fly fishing here is very good, catfish, shad, salmon, trout, bass, stripers, crappie abound. With the Delta in the Bay Area having all of them. Lots of others on this site fly fish much more than I and they always seem so helpful. Gluck Pete
