I seriously SUCK at fishing. I’ve been trying to bass fish for awhile now but I literally get skunked every time. I’ve tried different lures but I just can’t seem to get the hang of fishing. Been more frequently fishing over these past couple months. I might go once a week or maybe once every two weeks.

Sometimes I feel like quitting but I still love being at the lake. My question is when did you guys get food at fishing ?

Kind of silly but have you tried a bobber with a hook and a worm? Going back to the most basic setups still produce and are still quite fun.

Dude, my dad and I joined a boat club, we go out fishing every sunday. It's been a year and we are still TERRIBLE! So terrible that if I do catch anything, it's a catfish. I caught a bonnet head shark once, and a couple stingrays, lots of lizard fish. We decided that we are hopeless and are cancelling next year. Maybe we'll try golf.

Wha I’ve realized is fish are smarter than me. I’ve played around different lines, swivels, baits, reeling in techniques etc. You need to just go out and try new things and see what works for you. Different spots where I fish require different gear and I have different setups for fish. Everyone has their own “way” but I’d suggest YouTube since I got more ideas that way.

Throw out the ones that don’t work and keep and improve on what does

I definitely was not good when I started. Wasted a lot of money putzing around getting skunked.

The trick I found was to use senkos. Black/blue with poor water clarity. Watermelon red with clear water. Wacky rig it with an o ring. 8 lb test mono on a spinning outfit of any sort.

Don’t fish anything else until you catch fish on those.

Currently Im the best I've ever been. And so are you lol. There's always room for improvement though. Learning what lures to use in what weather conditions, the moon phases, or biological activity in the water (like algae blooms). There's always going to be something helpful to learn in fishing that'll make you better.

If you ever have any specific questions don't be shy, you can dm me whenever.

My kids outfish me every time.

The trick is not to care what you land. Sure they love bass and walleye but they are just as thrilled with bluegill and catfish ( and love carp). They will throw a top bobber or a bottom line to sit and then lure on a second line. They catch like crazy in ways that make no sense ( my son caught a 7lb bass on a worm on the bottom 8 ft from shore in a bunch of algae ).

They just love fishing and any fish makes them happy. When I follow their approach I'm much happier too. Any fish is a good fish.

Red fish
Blue fish
Green fish

Just gotta try different things/approaches/baits.

Like others have said sometimes simple works to get you started.

When did I get good? Hate to tell you this, but I've never been much good. If there's water and it's got fish in it, I throw something in there with a hook on it and if the fish are hungry they eat it. I don't have a clue what would make them want to eat a particular thing at a particular time. When you get to thinking that you do, you're just blowin smoke up your own butt. Just keep throwing stuff in the water with hooks on it. You'll catch fish.

"You're only as good as you think you are." Have you guys ever heard that saying before, maybe from an old coach? There is a lot of truth to it.
