"You're only as good as you think you are." Have you guys ever heard that saying before, maybe from an old coach? There is a lot of truth to it.

It is true.

And the only one that can make you better is you.

I find fishing where the fish are an important part of trying to be "good." You can fish all day in an area without fish, so learn some tricks about where to look, what makes the place look fishy to the fish.
Good luck.

A bobber, a small splitshot, a minnow. Everything eats minnows. Let the minnow swim around and complain. Patience will pay.

I think the term "googan" originated on the Gulf Shores Fishing Pier Forum, didn't it Darrell?
Did the Haywire start it?

Bass face

Living at the beach, annual trips to the High Sierras, houseboat trips as a youth, and parents that would drive me to a local bass fishing spot in the Santa Monica Mountains, gave me the opportunity to fish often and for a plethora of fish species in salt & fresh water. That said, if the waves were good I’d choose surfing over fishing 9 out of 10 times. I never stopped fishing though, and found myself traveling a lot to surf, but, never without a rod, reel,& small tackle box in my board bag. It wasn’t until I lived in Tennessee for a year that I truly fell in love with bass fishing. Since then, and back in So Cal for 20 years , I started reading about, watching videos about, and studying everything bass fishing with focus and a drive to be good. I can now say, I am a good fisherman, especially concerning bass. Not great! Just good. I’ve done good in some tournaments, made a few bucks and have competed with some great fisherman over the years. To be good is what it is... to be great is what I strive for. I’m only 50 years old... still have time! Never give up, always room to improve, and do the work necessary. Good is great, great is good, all said and done, just go fishing and have fun🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

It can take a long time to learn how to catch fishing and some of the things you should learn first is understanding your solunar tables and the tide tables and just by learning these two things will put you above most fisherman and you will catch more to.

Good luck.

Don't get me wrong, I love catching fish but just being out on the water watching the sun raise and set waiting on the tip of the rod to dance a little makes my day. Watching the white caps slap the side of the boat or sitting in calm water fighting off the gnats, Every day is different. I enjoy catching fish, but I also enjoy nature.
