It’s a question without an absolute answer.

Regardless of how careful you are in your practices and how barbless your hooks are, you will injure and probably kill a few fish by catching them. That’s a fact, not an opinion.

Regardless of whether fish “feel” pain, it certainly does not provide them any benefit to be caught, and seems to cause them a certain level of biological distress, all for our pleasure/amusement.

Given the above, whether it’s unethical/immoral depends on your ethics and morals and whether the potential harm is worth the gain.

We make these kinds of decisions all day everyday. The new iPhone I want was probably assembled by a 9 year old with a gun to her head, driving to the river created c02. I essentially paid an assassin to murder every hamburger I’ve ever eaten.....the list of moral quandaries is long, and the list of definitive answers is short, so that is why I do not add fly fishing to the list.

I fish because I fish.

Enjoy.

Actually driving to the river created CO, a deadly gas, CO2 is required for plant life. Mike

I'm looking to get an anchor for my kayak and I'm torn between using a mushroom style anchor or a grapnel style. Does anyone have any advice or experience with the mushroom style? My only hesitation with the grapnel style is getting it stuck on brush and I feel like a mushroom style might be easier to dislodge if it comes to that.

Hey SW, which ever one you go with tie the tag end of your line to the front of the anchor and then twine the line to the shaft that way if it gets snagged with enough force you can break the twine and you should be able to pull the business end up. Mike

Wanted to ask if any body knows when and where to catch blue fish in the Delaware bay area

That's hard to say. It mostly depends on how soon the water warms. We still have specks and some bluefish here in Va. Beach but that's unusual for this time of year. Mike

Sorry guys no blondes here

Darlin, I was a toe head until around 15 and then went to yellow blond. I'm now 70 and still sort of blond except for my beard which is again toe head. The thing is I'm a male so the blond thing didn't take affect. Whew! Mike

Would be way back on my part, I have not had color in my hair for a while.

I can't grow a beard because it is pure white while my hair is ash blond with no grey and I would be accused of dying my hair or frosting my beard and I'm only 70. Mike

Grab each side, put your hands behind your knees and squat. Unless truly frozen they will separate. Mike

Told CDB and Big Dog I was going fishing today and they asked for a cast for them. I said sure what # cast do you want between 2 and 300.

CDB chose 7 and B D choose 97.

1st pic was my 7th cast

2 nd pic was somewhere around 97.

3rd pic is why I lost count. Epic day 18 total all would have been keepers. I kept a 16" , a 17", and 2 each 18"

Think I will take B D and CDB fishing again

It's my understand that trout are still being caught in Va. Beach. Strange for this time of year. Mike

There are 7 different types of meat in a snapping turtle. Try keeping one and eating it just be careful, they can reach back bite you finger or half a hand off. If you're going to carry them, use the tail and keep it away from your leg. Mike

Its good, look at the reviews on amazon, thats where I found it. But make sure you know there’s alot of catfish where your fishing too before you say something doesn’t work or give up on it (i dont mean that in a rude way). This was my first time trying it, only bought it cause I couldn’t find chicken liver and it’s alot less messy and easier to deal with too so thats a plus. This pond i’ve been fishing at is stocked with catfish and bass too so I know they’re there, definitely would’ve caught more if turtles didn’t keep stealing my bait.

Take a couple or three slices of bacon. Use a third of a slice per cast and be sure to have a stringer. Mike

Really?! I've never heard of using bacon for bait...but I will definitely try it soon in fact thx and Tight lines!

You'll be surprised. No need to use a whole slice. Take a half slice and gob it up on the hook. The only problem I've had is getting it back off of the hook when done fishing but that's what a knife is for. Good luck and tight lines back at you. Mike
