Okay, so I have this canoe upside down on the bank in some weeds by my dock I fish from regularly. Out there all day Saturday, beautiful day. Half way through I get a new chatterbait hung up on a log I usually bump over. I flip over the canoe, retrieve the lure and well I’m in the canoe and spend the second half of the day in the canoe. Again Beautiful. Caught and released a bunch of bluegill. Great. Then that night I am all bit up with chigger bites. Now if I could see them or new I was getting bit at the time I could have reduced the exposure. I was out there all day. Now I am suffering. I am not counting the bites suffice to say Jethro would have to take his shoes off. What do you others with these chiggers running and jumping around do to prevent this uncomfortable situation??

Yes. Sometimes minor backlash can be cleared by holding the line tight coming out of the real and cranking a couple turns while pulling the line out. Not sure why it works, but I read about it and it does. Big bird nests I just keep pulling the line out until it hooks up on a loop of line. Back it up and pull the loop. Repeat, Repeat, and so on. I am glad I am learning. Like fishing BC. Going on four years now.

Wow. Great catch. I don’t need anything that big in my fishing hole. Might clear out all of the other fish.

Nice fish. I have caught them, but haven’t made a meal of them yet.

Not close at all. The Hwy 70 route is just part of the journey. You go to St. Louis first then south. No interstate in Iron County. Lots of two lane windy roads if you try a different path. Iron County isn’t known as a fishing destination. We are on track to becoming a big downhill biking destination. If that is a sport for you then the drive is shorter than Arkansas or Colorado.

Long great day of fishing. Bass weren’t biting anything. Switch to red wigglers and bluegill fishing. Couple of them to show. Sometimes you have to settle for what is working. How did the rest of you do Saturday? Anyone in Missouri fishing on the Stage?

Exactly, the fish hang out where the lures hang up. I have a canoe on standby when fishing from the dock. It has paid for itself in retrieving lures.
Walmart and Academy Sports have one and two dollar lures that catch fish and don’t sting so bad when you catch a tree bass.

Thank you. I need to see what I have been using also. I think they are probably all about 5 to 6.

I think DC uses some kind of microprocessor. I’ve read sampling 1000 times a second to adjust the brake. Batteries? The Curado 200 is still mechanical. I think.

Okay, now we’re talking. I have lost a few charging in at the dock and jumping right at me. Thanks

Does the high ratio affect retrieve when hauling in a bigger fish?

I looked up the new model Curado 200. There are three retrieve ratios being produced. How does the ratio affect fishing. That specification was never an issue form me. Turn the crank faster or slower to get to the pace I want. Any comments on what’s best for what. If I am spending $150 or more I’d like to get it right. Thanks

They really are good. Not sure how old mine is, but it is very smooth. If you decide to sell let me know. Ebay has some, but I am not sure about buying second hand reels on ebay. I would rather see pictures of fish you catch with it. Get it on a rod.

Hello all, I was lucky to be able to buy a Shimano Curado CU200 with upgraded bearings from a pro that I used to work with. He has since offered double to get it back. No way. Now I would like another, but finding one isn’t a real expectation. Any suggestions on what is out there new that is similar. Since he is trying to buy it back I am assuming this is a not an easy question

Thanks, love the Stage.

More BC help if you want it. As you fill up the spool you can tape the spool halfway full. Then finish filling normally. The birdnest won’t go past the tape minimizing the pain while you learn. If you get a big mess you can cut out to the tape and get fishing again. I was a spincaster like you. Never new what I was missing. Pflueger Presidents sit for live bait only.
