You know why Southern Cali will never break off and sink into the ocean?

Sorry boys, the devil made me do it!
Hi Paul. Tahoe Bruce here. I grew up in Fresno & the family had a cabin at Huntington Lake. Huntington has fairly cold water & supports trout & Kokane Salmon. Shore fishing & trolling from a boat are the primary fishing methods. Shaver is more diverse & warmer, supporting trout, bass, catfish, & panfish. Both shore and boat fishing produce at Shaver. Both lakes are large, so using a fish finder helps locate more productive fishing grounds. Check with the local marinas to make sure thereβs enough water in the lakes to keep the boat ramps open before bringing your trailer launched boat. (Drought conditions sometimes leave the boat ramps high & dry.) Good luck!!

Hey Bruce, where in Tahoe do you live? We still have a house in South Shore.
Actually, we'll be up there on the 23rd through July 5th.

I just live right down the road from you. Just up Pioneer Trail bout 3 miles from Myers.
I'll be up there Wednesday.
Very well,I will keep Huntington&Shaver on my interest for. 2021.
Bring Ur fishing pole. The good fishing is about to go deep & into the high country. Summer & empty rivers are about a month ahead of normal this season. The Carson river is still good for having enough water, but not for much longer.
I would love to learn more about fishing for trout! I live in the Sacramento area and mostly target bass as I grew up in Chicago.

Catching trout in California is on the one hand fairly easy because there are a lot of places that hold trout. On the other hand, they can be very difficult to catch, because they can be picky and very wary. And different kinds of trout eat different things. Primarily. And fishing for trout in lakes can be a lot different than in streams. So - where do you want to fish and what kinda trout do you want to target?
And welcome to the Stage Mick. Stay in touch and post pictures.
Hi I am a mom taking 2 boys camping at Lake Mary in Mammoth Lakes soon. We have never caught a fish and really want to. Any advice on bait, or any tips are appreciated. We are total novices.
How old are the boys? Little ones get bored with fishing real quick if they aren't constantly biting, and even then the novelty wears off pretty quickly. So you need to be extremely patient with them or the whole experience can turn sour on you before you know it. Do you have any fishing gear at all, or are you starting out with nothing at all? Walmart can be your friend here. Check out their rod and reel combinations - look for Zebco spincast reels. Your best bet from the bank (I assume?) are trout, bluegills or catfish. You can "bait and wait" for all those and you don't need any fancy bait - worms will work just fine. Or if you want a trout you could buy a jar of Berkley Powerbait - trout love it. But trout like worms too. Let me know if you want more information, I'm happy to help a mom and her boys out. You can PM me - I'll answer.
Here's what I would do. Go to Walmart. Get the following:
A jar of Berkley Powerbait - I like the Rainbow with sparkles in it. Lot of folks like chartreuse with speckles. Doesn't really matter.
Some number 8 or 10 single egg salmon hooks.
A bag of 1/4 oz egg sinkers.
A bag of plastic beads.
A small spool of 4 pound test fluorocarbon fishing line.
On the main line of your reel put a sinker, a bead and then tie on one of the swivels - in that order - the bead is to make sure the swivel doesn't get jammed up into the sinker. To the swivel tie on about 2 feet or so of the fluorocarbon. On the end of the fluoro, tie on one of the egg hooks.
When you get to the lake, find you a forked stick to prop up your fishing rod. Take a ball of the powerbait and roll it round the hook to cover it. Cast it out a ways, prop up your pole, attach those bells and wait for em to ring.
Pretty simple really. The power bait floats and will present your hook about 2 feet off the bottom. Trout are not bottom feeders. If you want to use worms you can get a worm blower to inject air into them - that will make them float off the bottom. Other baits that work for this rig are mini marshmallows with a salmon egg or even with a kernel of canned corn - trout love it.
All the stuff I mentioned above (except the corn and marshmallows) is available in Walmart's sporting goods section. Go have some fun with those boys, catch some fish and make some memories. Anything else, you just ask.
Do you know any fishing knots? I can help there too.
Great advice! I will head to Walmart. Thanks! I don't know fishing knots offhand but can look on YouTube. Thanks!!
