Was that in Lake Mercer or an outflow between the lake and Rt 130? I am not familiar with that area but it looks interesting. Can any reasonable shore fishing be done or do you need a boat?

Like Fly, I love trout fishing in a gentle rain. It knocks the bugs off the tree into the water triggering the bite.

Also , feeder streams are supplying food via terrestrials washing in and downstream, and weaker swimming baitfish being overcome by stronger currents. Fish the areas at the mouth. No mosquitoes either, or deer flies.
Ticks, might crawl up your leg to seek food (you) and shelter ? Just fish. It's only WATER.

Rain is water. Fish live in water. Why would rain, an introduction of fresh water, hurt the bite?

It could knock flying insects into the water... Fish eat insects... Also, it can "wash" all manner of WHATEVER is higher in elevation, down into the water, some of which = FISH FOOD; some, maybe just "cloudy-up" the water... Try it; make your own observations.

It's my opinion that fishing is good during moderate rain. Consider all the worms and other food that gets washed into the water during the rain that makes the fish active during those times. Safety of course is always the primary concern and angler comfort is what keeps many guys off the water, but if you are prepared for the weather and it's not so heavy that it hinders your fishing technique, you will catch plenty of fish during moderate rain.

I think i see two distict lines of thought here….guys who spend their work week out in the elements and dont want anything to do with rain on their days off and guys who work indoors and dont mind a little rain. Neither is right or wrong…just different outlooks.

Haaa, I don't work anymore and I still don't want to fish in the rain. Bein retired I can choose the days I want to fish and I choose not to fish in the rain. But I live in California and with several years of drought we don't get rained out very often. I don't even remember the last time we had a GOOD rain. I think we had a couple good rains sometime last year but I wouldn't swear to it. IDK.

I go to Northern Canada every other year for four days of fishing. One has to fish no matter the weather- excluding lightning - every day. Some of my best days have in the rain. Walleye seem to bite better in rain than pike, but can catch both.

Ha, remember raining and my ex coming out while I was hooking boat up to the truck “thought you said you couldn’t work outside today because it’s raining, but you can go fishing? Told her yup my power tools don’t do well in the rain but the d*** fish are already wet….

Great response to her question. Keep the corded tools handy, and you'll get a day off work from work to
fish once in a while. NEVER mention battery powered tools.
