Fly fishing trout is always better in the rain. The fish can't see you as well because of the raindrops on the water.

I've always have my best trout fishing in the rain for some reason

If you like to do that, y'all have fun. However, at my age, there's not a single thing I would enjoy doin out in the rain.
Now if I'm already out fishin and it starts rainnin, I might stay out there for a little while if it's during the summer and it wasn't too cold and didn't last too long and wasn't rainnin too hard and the fish were bitin.

If I'm fishing a small pond, I don't see much sense in "keeping after it" for very long, in HEAVY rain, as all manner of fish food will be "washing into" the pond, most usually. As long as there's no thunder and lightning I won't fish 8n heavy rain

Great success right before the rain and after the first few drops. Not much success during the rain. No success after the rain. This has been the case on many, many occasions. Now I simply don't go fishing during or 24 hours after a rain.

[quote=Miley1]My personal best in the rain was once on the Ohio river at Augusta we were fishing between fall rain showers and filled two baskets with catfish. Then years later I was wade fishing a creek in Harrison Co. when it was raining upstream so the creek was slowly rising. the small mouth were on fire.

When I worked for a living I had to be out in the rain, snow or 100 plus weather. I don't have to do that anymore besides I've developed a severe allergic reaction to lightening. Fish may bite better in the rain but that's a chance I'll have to take. Just 1 other good reason not to fish in the rain. My hearing aids can't get wet.

Agree, work all my life outside, don't have to have sunshine to fish but no rain for this kid.
