I do’t know the area much (yet, but still hoping) but easiest place to get a license is online.
Aerial views of the beach there doesn’t show jetties, but you can get an idea of where holes and sandbars might be, and gauge where relative to certain streets or buildings.
Try just north at Rudee Inlet or the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier as well as the Little Island pier at Sandbridge
How was the trip? what did you catch?

Looking to take my sons out fishing here soon. Where's the best place biting right now? They are also looking to use their kayaks. Thanks for any advice in advance.

I don’t know the area there well, but with all that water around you should find it easy to enjoy both the kayaking and fishing. Bay water still cool, but shallow bars with sun on em all day should be attracting bait and fish. Upstream and inland should find plenty of warmer water and freshwater species. Enjoy!
Thanks. We have certain spots we usually go too but was looking for a different spot this time. Thanks for the tips. I greatly appreciate it.

Any action at the rebuilt buckroe pier??
The specked trout and mullets are in full form. Out two weeks ago and everyone was catching fish. Glad to see action at pier. They’ve rebuilt the pier with new wood planks.

When bait, can’t beat shrimp. You can get em with lures too though. Plugs like Redfin, MirroLure, and Rebel/Rapala type are good, also jigs with soft trailer tails.
How is the fishing so far at Tucker's Recreational Park. Or West point ??
I'm a Saltie for all my life but live a 10-minute walk to the James River above the Fall Line...
Pretty sure there are a to of Blue Cats in there but I want to catch Small Mouth Bass or something other than a bottom feeder.
I know almost nothing about river fishing, and I would be bank fishing as I don't own a canoe or Kyack (yet).
Educate me, please!
Tackle I own varies from surf rods to light casting rods, and my questions are bait vs. lures, can I use small spinner reels or do I need to dive into fly casting? I have a lifetime geezer license for both salt and fresh.
