I think I've seen one docked on Barn Creek off Gum Thicket Rd. on Gwynn's Island. You might want to ride over there and check. Look for a sign at the beginning of a driveway on your right a little ways down the road.

I think in Heathsville there is a boat takes charters out, not sure if he often has open spots or takes walk in’s. Try googling him - Crabbe’s Charter Fishing.
You may have to head north or south a way to get to highly populated area for an actual party boat, or head boat, like Annapolis or Virginia Beach.
I don’t know the area there well, actually wish I did. Seems being located on the west shore of the bay and fairly close to inlet it would be great for so many species. I’d really love find out a good place around there to go crabbing, and when best months are.

Tell us all more. How much time on the pier and how many trout? I would imagine if didn’t use bait you could avoid the crabs and pest fish. Maybe fishing with shrimp (off the bottom though so not losing them to crabs) would get action, but just casting good lures (mirrolures, little plugs, silver spoons, etc) should get the trout and maybe even have chance at other gamefish. Mackerel might be around, and a lot of other types should be migrating. Keep casting!

I think there's a head boat that goes out of Barn Creek on Gwynn's Island. There's a sign at beginning of the driveway off Gum Thicket Rd. with the name of the business. Drive over there and see if that's what your looking for. It's probably only 20 minutes from Cobbs Creek.

Hello Virginia saltwater fishermen and women! So happy to have Virginia on the site! I just got my boat back from being serviced and looking forward to hunting down some fish soon. I fish in the Gwynn's Island area of the Chesapeake Bay mostly and occasionally in the Mobjack Bay area. Anybody fishing those areas? If so how's the catching?

Yes, out near Irvington / Corrotoman River. Going out late next week for first try of the season. as a new resident to that area, any help is appreciated.

Trout and Drum in the Lynnhaven River systems, particularly way inland on the eastern branch. Some spots too. No croaker yet for me.
