What a nice catch. It would be a beautiful wall mount. Can the meat be saved if the fish was frozen before going to the taxidermist?

I caught a 35# king salmon out of Ilwaco when we were poor newly weds 50 years ago. The fish went to the cannery and we enjoyed canned salmon during the winter. I would love to have that fish mounted and hanging in our office. But when your poor, eating is more important than vanity.

The WDFW Commissioners set seasons, bag limits, and policy for the department on recommendations of department personnel. The Commissioners are appointed by the governor and approved by the democrat-controlled senate. Gov. Dimslee has a very liberal, west-of-the-Cascades agenda and his appointees, at this time, are definitely of similar mind set. The current Commissioners may or may not be consumers of fish or wildlife. Personally, I'd like to see more warm water species such as blue gill, crappie, and perch. Those fisheries are great fun for kids of all ages, don't require expensive boats, downriggers or twelve different colors of the same lure or hoochie and are absolutely delicious.

I had poor luck opening weekend July 15 in Bellingham Bay. We set pots in exact spots as last year, and we easily limited several days. We had to throw back keepers after limiting in one pot. We plan on boating September 20 for a week and wonder if anyone is having good luck at this time? Where are the hot spots? Also, thinking about taking salmon gear. Any suggestions?? I'll check at Yeager's before heading out. Thanks for help and info.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pick up a small tractor lawnmower battery.

I have a 3.5 pull start Tohatsu on my 7.5' Livingston. I also have an Eagle fishfinder from a previous boat. Is there any way I can use the engine as a source of power? I thought about installing a small riding lawnmower battery to power the FF, but wouldn't that wear down if fishing for 8 hours. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Randy H

Thank you for the responses. Lake Chelan does yield some nice silvers, but Lake Roosevelt is the real deal. Have caught some nice 16"+ silvers and rainbows at LR. I was surprised last summer when I fished Samish one time. After silvers quit biting around 1000 hrs I trolled along the shoreline thinking there might be a lurking rainbow. Holy smokes, the bass took my wedding band. What a hoot.

Does anyone fish Lake Samish in Whatcom county this time of year? Same with Lake Whatcom???? I'm new to the area and previously fished for kokanee (silvers) in Lake Chelan. I always fished during spring and summer, but some guys fished this time of year. Any info is appreciated.
