Hey guys, Wrench and I went to the pet River today for Stripers.
I picked him up at -6-- and we got to the water bout 0630. Started to fish bout 0645 and had one in the boat within the first 15 min. Not sure when. It was a short but the first of 18 fish.
We continued to catch fish throughout the river and finally started to get a few keepers later in the morning.
It was overcast early and finally started to burn off around 1030. The fishin really picked up once the sun came out and we started to catch bigger fish.
Finally ended up with our limit of 4.
Smallest was 18 1/2 the largest was bout 21. All nice eatin size.
I let Wrench have all of them. So I didn't have to fillet ANY fish today.
I took 1 pic of Wrench with 1 small fish on the boat but all the keepers were later so just the after catchin pic.
Did have one accident. Wrench got a hook all the way through the outer edge of his right hand I believe. Just caught the skin on the outside base of his little finger.
That little Striper just wouldn't hold still and the hook got him while he was tryin to get the Boca grips on it.
It went all the way through and I was able to pinch the barb down and finally get it out but it still wasn't easy.
Those are XTRA strong heavy duty hooks on those 1OZ Rattle Traps and the cutters we had wouldn't cut the hook.
It didn't stop him from fishin and catchin for the rest of the morning.
We caught out last fish bout 11 and were off the water by 1130 I think.
Thanks for such a great day Gary.

By the way.
We were trollin down the river when this Arima boat comes up on us and they slow down and the guy says," Are you Saw1?"
I couldn't hear what all he said but I said "Yeah".
They came in while we were getting ready to leave the lot to go home and he introduced himself and his wife.
So "HEY" to John Walker and his lovely bride. Glad to have met you.
Hope you have better luck next time if you can order those big 1OZ Rattle Traps.
Everybody take care and behave yourselves. I'm headed back up to Tahoe in the morning.

Took my three grandkids fishing again at Petaluma river for striper Friday....launched at Gilardi's and started trolling white hair raisers and rattletraps by the red barn.....only caught 4 but had many bites...took and hour to catch the first two and is the custom of our boat we get a twizzler (red vine) for our good luck...went another hour and no fish so my granddaughter suggested we have a twizzler to bring us luck...30 seconds later bang...fish on...I know but it gets better...we go half and hour and nothing so grandma says maybe we should have another twizzler to which all three kids agree...I am handed a twizzler and about to take a bite and...you guessed it...bang the biggest fish of the day...nice 25 incher.......twizzlers????? spooky.....

Well guys, we got to the river bout 0830. Got to the fishin grounds bout 0845. Trolled for bout 20 min and I finally hooked up with a heavy fish. It took bout 40 feet of line out before we could get the rod out of the holder.
I was tryin to reel it in and it was takin drag and fightin really hard. Finally, I tightened the drag a little so I could reel it in.
I fought it for bout 2 min and gained close to 100 feet of line. I still had 140 feet of line out when, BAM, it pulled off. I will admit that I said"SON OF A B----". I was really pissed at mysely for doin that. I really know better and I should have played it properly and got it to the boat whenever it was ready. OH WELL.
Started trollin again and bout 10 min later Ben hooks up with one. He's reelin it in and says it doesn't feel like a Striper, just really heavy. Well, he gets it to the boat and pulls up a big Striper and I net it real quick. It no sooner gets into the bottom of the boat and promptly brakes the line bout 2 inches above the lure. Good thing I got it in the net on the first try. It was 28 inches long and bout 7+pounds.
We started trollin again and I hook up with another one and get it in the boat and it's 21 inches so we keep it too.
Start trollin again and couple min later I hook up again but this one was a short.
We've hooked and landed 3 fish within bout 15 to 20 min. and it's only 10am.
We start trollin again but no more fish for the next 30 min. Finally Ben hooks up and lands another short.
It's bout 10:30 and that was the last fish we caught. Had a couple more hits but no takers.
We kept tryin till 1pm and finally called it a day. Got off the water and was home by 2pm.
I took 1 pic of Bens short and then a pic of the keepers.
Gorgeous day but was pretty chilly this morning.
It was 30* when I hooked up to the boat and was a balmy 38* when I got to the launch at 0830.
Thankfully, no wind early. Picked up a little bout noon but wasn't bad.
All in all we had a pretty good day. 5 fish hooked and 4 landed. Two keepers. Fished for 4 hours.
Well guys, we got to the river bout 0830. Got to t... (show quote)

Can't help you with your fishing question Joystix, i am a peddle powered yaker too and didn't want to pass up the opportunity to say nice looking yak you have there.

As for your tide question i guess i depends on how strong the tide is. Here i start my day against the tide and or wind so that coming back is less strenuous.

Good luck and tight lines in your new ride.

I put in at gilardie's...and troll next to the bank with white hairraisers....try an hour before and after high tide for best results....I have a boat but I did have a pedal hobie so I think it will work....good luck....downstreamer
