So how hard would you have to pull on a , say 6 foot rod to break 25LB test? 100lbs? Both thumbs locked down on the spool?

A tip to help stop birds nest. Don't "thumb" the line, thumb the side of the spool.
I put my drain plug with the ignition key. If it's there when I start the boat I know I forgot to install it.

I'm curious if when fishing is good how many of you change lures to see if what hasn't worked before or an untried lure, will work?

You need a sport fishing license to fish off the beach, but you don't need an Ocean Enhancement Stamp if you're fishing north of Point Arguello, (which is just North of Santa Barbara).

Check the regs but I think a license is not required to fish from piers or jetties.

I forgot to mention earlier that any time I hit the beach that I take my sand flea rake -- good, free bait for just about everything from perch to stripers to halibut.

If you want tips on using a rake the right/easy way (most of what I've seen on YouTube stinks), post a new thread -- you'll get better responses than if it is buried in this one.

Are sand fleas the same as sand crabs? If so I think there is a possession limit.

Since the lighter line has more stretch how is it more sensitive. Thanks

I agree bapabear. The stiffer rod will enhance the "fight."

Look on YouTube for instructions on "Roll" casting and you wont have to worry about the backcast.

Mini jigs in gray over pearl work great. Even if used under a bobber with about 4 feet separation. Had many 50 plus fish days there. 4 lb stren light green Magnathin. No need for 2 lb leaders.

I absolutely believe, but I have not celebrated Christmas since 2020 when my wife passed away for the simple reason that December 25 was our wedding anniversary as well. Just too hard to celebrate without her.

I teared up reading this. Please know she would want you to celebrate what you had.

Check the tides. Incoming or out going, moving water is the best time. At slack tide the fishing in Long Beach Harbor turns off like a light switch. Low light works best for some of the beach species so early as possible. The wind usually comes up about 10 am and slows the fishing.
Good Luck!

You are correct that IGFA does not allow snagging, however it does allow a foul hooked fish to be submitted. So if the hook was baited he can submit if the foul hooking was not intentional.

I live up here in the Red Bluff area of Ca. I’m a bass man.
I keep hearing about fishing the Delta. Problem is I can’t find out a thing about it.
Where is it? Where do you launch? Best place to catch bass? Is it a river or lake.
Can someone help?
Thanks
Mike

Try Dan Blantons website. Mostly fly fishers but he sure knows the area.

I think that is a Green Sunfish and not a Bluegill. used to have a lot of them in Azusa Canyon. The cream colored , edged fins are beautiful.
