It seems like by the time a dry suit becomes necessary, the smallmouth bite is just about done anyway. Where I live it is hovering in the mid 40s (air temp) and the river I fish is 55. I’m tempted to get out as the fish are probably biting but it is simply too dangerous without proper immersion gear I’ve been told.

Is it worth ponying up the $500+ for a dry suit just for these brief periods at the beginning and end of the season or is the bite so scarce it would be wasteful?

If you really want to go fishing then go! But as far as investing in a dry suit, I'd say look at what your ROI (return on investment) will be. Say you end up in the water, which in a kayak is a good possibility. So looking at $$ only and not the emotional cost to your family.

For ROI subtract the amount of cost from the amount in $$ of pleasure it gives you.

Good dry suit = $500
Creamation = $725-1000
Funeral including embalming and casket = $5000 and up

I think the dry suit may be the way to go on this ivestment.

I don't know what the brand is but this is one I've used for enough years I can't remember the name. Keep it in the little pocket in the fly vest . Once you get the tippet into the eye it take about 10 seconds to tie a clinch.

Send us a picture of this tool. I’m always looking for a better gadget.

I fly fish a lot for trout and smallmouth bass. They both love a greenish Pistol Pete.

About 15 years ago I was at a local Sportsman’s Warehouse picking up stuff for a Alaska trip. Ran into a old feller there who also retired from teaching and now worked part time at the Phoenix SW in the winter and the Anchorage SW in the summer. Now that’s a dream job.

Usually grass carp are sterilized before selling to golf courses and canal operators but it just takes one to slip by. Yes all carp are very invasive. Kill all you catch.

Hi everyone, I'm in a pickle here and need to see if anyone can help. Long story short. My fishing bud left his Shimano Magumlite GT-1581 in my boat after a road trip we took to go fish in Green Bay. Needless to say when I unloaded, the first 6 inches of his favorite one piece rod has now become a two piece rod. Ouch.
I don't want to deliver the bad news and am looking for a replacement for him. I saw one out on Ebay but times are a little tougher than that. Any chance anyone has one they might part with?

I have a couple of old cheap fly reels that I dont use any more. Stripped the old line off and threw away and used the old reel to reel off the new reel to reverse the line and the backing. Works great.
