Try downloading the Fishing Atlas fron Dept of Wildlife. It list (with map/directions) of all the lakes and what species.

I don't think you can use a cast net to catch blue gill in CO. Think you can use it to catch shad though.

Good luck and Tight Lines

Great story, brought back memories of fishing for halibut in San Diego bay back in 1968 when I was going to Naval A school.

One time while fishing there, I saw a ship out on the horizon, never though much about it, kept on fishing. Next thing you know, I looked up and all I could see was SHIP, it was the USS Coral Sea. She was probably within 100 yards of us. Couldn't pull the starter cord fast enough...got out of the way and have a memory I'll never forget.

Good morning Fred,
I love that little lake. I use to fish it a lot when I lived in Middletown. I would troll along the side where the boat ramp is and straight across the lake using a silver and purple "rapala" type lure. Would always pick up some nice crappie.

Looks like you did alright, had fun. That's the main thing.

I'm gonna be in the Springs 🏔 area for the next 8 months or so. I'm not a fly fisherman and don't have access to a boat, so I'm limited to "nearby" reservoirs and/or waters in/on Fort Carson or USAF Academy for trout or better yet, 🐟 panfish.

Any experienced locals with suggestions for me how, when and where to introduce my early teenaged grandkids to the world of fishing while their dad is stationed overseas, would be greatly appreciated. They are unsure about wanting to even try their luck. I bought them tackle 🎣 when they arrived here nearly 5 years ago but they haven't pulled any of it out of the rafters since 😦.....☘

Prospect Lake, Quail Lake and Pikeview all in Colorado Springs. Monument Lake, about 17 miles north in Monument, Palmer lake just a little further north and Pueblo Lake about 45 miles south in Pueblo also Runyon lake in Pueblo.

BPS has their 13ft Ascend package deal with a Hook fish finder, Minn Kota trolling motor, and a battery for $1995.00.
If they have any in stock, it's a very good deal.

Look at Brooklyn Kayaks. They have some pretty good deals in your price range on peddle kayaks.

Nice catch. We were in the Port Aransas - Port Lavaca area in March. A little too cool and windy for me and the kayak too. I'm originally from Manhattan, would like to get back there to do some crappie fishing.

The app is listed there. We travel during the winter, I'm retired. We will be back in the Springs for Easter. Perhaps we can get together after Easter.

Thank you for your service.

All the places you mentioned are good. If you go to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife site, they have an app that you can download which will give you all the lakes, the species of fish in the lake. I'm from Colorado Springs too.

Gene, feel your pain... I bought one off Wish. Looked at it when it arrived but not real close. Now 6 months later, I got it out to use kayaking in Yuma AZ...no cartridge. Checked all the sports stores in Yuma, no one had a CO2 cartridge to fit. Think I might have found one on Amazon, but we are traveling in RV for next month...have to wait until I get home (Colorado Springs CO) in April. You might check Amazon.

For a pretty much permannet mount, you can mount inside the hull. The signal will "shoot" thru the hull...no holes and it is always there. There is a marine epoxy (don't know the name) that you use. Think there is a YouTube video on it.
