Has anyone fished at Blue lake this season. I'm going Tuesday on the long trip from COS to near Las Animas. Usually saugeye and crappie are biting now during high water on minnows and gulp minnows. What do you use? Thanks.

Been below the normal standards for blue
Went yesterday, took Hwy 96. Long uneventful drive. On water by 9, two other boats. Saw plenty of fish but only caught 1 fine crappie about 1330 on a red sparkely squid jig. Threw the takle box at them: lures, jigs, even daredevils.The other boats didn't do well either.
The fish would circle the boat and spook when a lure came in sight. Probably sauger.
An old timer there said it was off.
We had to leave at 1530. I think it might have been better towards dusk and later in season when pool drops further. Water level is about half normal. The area is 76 percent of normal.
Right now, was not worth the trip for fish; scenery and a day on the water, yes.
Going to try Brushy creek next, but after that, the old standby, Skag.
On final tip: the gravel road going in from 96 was excellent, but going out to Las Animas was terrible, paved with large rocks rather than gravel. Recommend going back to highway 96.

Yes, that road from las animas is terrible! Several have had tires ruined, if coming from las animas highly recommend driving thru las animas to county rd 14 turn north go about 15 miles, can't miss it
