I fish Lake Guntersville in north Al,shallow with lots of grass and Lilly pads. I use a 2500 spinning reel with 10lb braid on a medium ugly stick elite no problem in a kayak where I can go to the bass if caught up in grass so if shore fishing I would go up to 20 lb or even 30. Mainly for abrasion most inshore fishing in fl is with a 2500-3000 spinning reel with 10-15 lb braid 20-30 lb leader on a medium rod with lot bigger fish than you will catch in a pond. Lot of great spinning reels for freshwater for $50-75 or less on sale.

I’m not rolling in money right now, but would like to buy a decent spinning setup for pond hopping. I’ve come to like one piece rods, but that’s not what I’m most interested in right now (although suggestions would be nice). I’ve recently used a my uncle’s pfleuger presidential reel when I went trout fishing with him for the first time. For the money it felt buttery smooth compared to the really cheap reels I own. I just don’t know what size to get for overall fishing.

I generally fish soft plastics from my spinning setup now, but will occasionally tie on my micro crank baits or even a chatter bait If I don’t have my baitcasting setup. What suggestions do y’all have for spinning setups? Also what line should I use?
