Kurto,
Nice catch. You must have found some good ice. Not easy to find this winter or should I say, lack of winter in Minnesota.
Seeing the pictures gets me excited to get out on the ice. Well done guys. Enjoy a nice fish fry or two.
Kinhod,
25 years ago I fished Cut Foot Sioux a few times in the fall of the year with a group of guys. I have never fished it in the winter. It was a good walleye lake and since it adjoins Winnie, it provided some options for easy access. Good luck with fishing and from the little I know, you will find some good fishing.
My suggestion is to contact Sommers Outdoors in Fairmont. They sell bait and are a good source of information on the lakes in the Fairmont region. The lakes in Fairmont have a variety of species but unfortunately the yellow bass are taking over.
Homer,
No reason to apologize for using common sense. I love ice fishing but I tell people, “I will never be the first one out on the ice and I won’t be the last one off the ice.”
Welcome Leslie,
I fish Budd from time to time. Wishing you good fishing.
Assume you have been fishing the lakes around Fairmont. I was on Budd a couple of weeks ago and the heat is taking its toll on the water quality. Caught a couple of yellow bass in 18’.
Flyguy,
This is great information. What you are posting makes sense. I normally go to Canada right after ice out at the beginning of the legal walleye season to a small lake on a fly-in. Some years we are able to pick up fish along the shore line in very shallow water. Quite often we get walleye that are milting and that can be messy in the boat.
That’s part of the the fun of ice fishing. Just look to see where others are fishing. Drill a couple of holes and use fishing locator to check depth and see if you are marking fish. Good luck.
