Well it’s Christmas Eve and with our abnormal winter in the northland, it was bound to happen! We have been watching the brave souls that are tooo fish hungry, venturing out onto potentially thin ice! Well, it happened this morning! It rained here overnight(still raining now) and a hard sided fish house has gone through the ice! It was one of three on the bay where we live. First and foremost, in my opinion, I think they’re idiots! It has been unseasonably warm all winter so far. We just watched the owner walk out to it to survey his dilemma! It’s been all over the news! Use some common sense! Now his problem is, he has to wait for a good freeze for it to be safe and thereby make better ice which will turn his fish house into a giant block of ice! Hopefully no one will get harmed( or killed) with this fiasco! Sorry for venting about this dudes bad circumstances! Use your heads people!

Homer,
No reason to apologize for using common sense. I love ice fishing but I tell people, “I will never be the first one out on the ice and I won’t be the last one off the ice.”

I always figured when the idiots start driving their truck on the ice it is probably safe for me to walk out.

I see that Devils Lake, North Dakota is frozen over with the ice walkers out catching. But I'm a southern boy who doesn't walk on water. I will leave it to you more religious people.

They exist. More power to them. Sometimes a few act as if they are able to…. Not ice either… water.

No apologies needed. I agree with you. I also don’t have a bunch of sympathy for those that built on an ocean cliff side Or waterfront and then it falls into the sea or floods. DUH.

But then again many don’t believe the recorded temps for the last several hundred / thousand years are true.

I once worked with a hard core ice fisherman in Minnesota. His goal was always to be the first with his truck on the water at his favorite lake. He managed to put a brand new three day old Ford F150 truck through the ice. The truck was totaled. Not being dissuaded he performed the same behavior every year after that (as long as I worked with him). Twenty years later he is still alive and engaging in the same antics. Charles Darwin has a leash attached to him. He will be claimed!

Ice is NOT something to be careless about.

Indeed he will! Watched the crew of “great” friends help the second victim, reclaim his shanty! They were at it for nearly three hours! Ended up dragging it on its side to the landing where they were able to flip it back on its wheels! By the way, it was raining the entire time! As an aside, now the 26th, Lake Minnewaska, to the south of Alexandria, is now dang near wide open!
