I fish in Monroe back the DTE plant on Front street. This place is well known.
For bait, I always use worms and medium-sized raw shrimp.
There are a lot of (I think they're called) Shags in the channel. They jump and splash all the time, but rarely bite. If you can catch one, they make good cut bait. I typically use a 5oz sinker with 15-25 lb. test line. The further out you can cast, the better your chances at the monsters.

The spot opens on May 15th. It'll likely be very crowded when they first open for the season. I think DTE security opens the gate around 4:30AM. I've had good luck all times of the day. They close at dusk.

Good Luch!

Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can clue me on good on-shore walleye spots and techniques for walleye. I've never had good luck with walleye. I jig like most everyone but never have good luck. With the current, I'm wonder how heavy my jigs should be. I think what I use are too light. I've every size and color rubber/plastic jigs I can find but never much success.

As soon as we get another 45 degree weekend day, I'll probably try under the Ambassador bridge or at Riverside park. Can anyone recommend good spots east of downtown?

Thanks in advance!

Warmer days coming up as we approach Christmas day.
Are the walleye still hitting in the Detroit River?
Have not seen too many Facebook posts lately but people were doing very well by the Ambassador Bridge.

Are you referring to the pier where the lighthouse is where US10 ends at the lake?

Has anyone seen Salmon in the Pere Marquette yet? Specifically close to M37 in Baldwin?

Welcome Female Fisherman,

I was just in Baldwin last weekend. I checked the PM just east of M37 (in Baldwin) and didn't see a single salmon. I was amazed b/c exactly 1 year ago, in the exact same location, I stopped counting at 50 salmon in about 3 minutes. I had never seen anything like it.

About 45 minutes from Baldwin, I have heard they are starting to stack up at Tippe Dam.

I've on 2 Lake Erie Walleye charters and I think it $600 each time. There were either 5 or 6 of us on each.
But,this was about 4-5 years ago.

Take a look at fishingbooker.com for current availability and pricing.

Good Luck

I was there yesterday. Absolutely no silver bass from about 8A-2P. Only small perch. What a disappointment!

I got 1 last week in Monroe.
I've seen a few other taken in Trenton also.
I figure they'll start hitting hard this week or next.

I'll specifically targeting catfish my next few outings. Gotta stock up for a summer fishfry!

I'll be in Melbourne next week.
Can anyone recommend a good spot for a tourist to fish?
Also, a place that rents fishing gear.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

It was a pretty good day, Sunday.

Our group from the clinic was about 20 people. We started just downsteam from the boat launch. WE started around 7:00AM just after the sun was up good. Only issue was the flying insects in the area. Total Nuisance!!!
Fishing was decent. I caught one small rainbow and hookd a good one but it escaped.

Moved up by the damn platform above the coffer. Plenty of people landing good fish but it was too crowded for me.
People in our group near the launch did well after 9:30ish. I heard about 7 fish were landed.

Even though I came home empty-handed, it was a great first-time experience.

One guy I talked to mentioned how plentiful sturgeon can be but no sign of any this weekend.
Hope to try again in 2 weeks if they're still running.
