I was just wondering if anyone has caught any Silver Bass yet in the Detroit River. I know it's not everyone's favorite fish to catch but I enjoy catching them from the bank and releasing them when they come through. I fished for awhile this morning in Trenton with no luck.
Some people call them White Bass. They usually run in the Detroit River from early May to early June.
Thanks. I know them as White Bass.

Can’t help with the Detroit river but I know they have been running in the Cuyhoga, Rocky and other rivers in my area.
Good luck and tight lines

Thanks, they should be here soon with this nice weather we're having.
The white bass, as we seem to call them locally, are definitely a blast to catch. We used to seek them out when they reached the St. Clair River near Algonac, MI too. I hope they show up soon and you have fun catching some!
Thanks, I'm going over there daily to check it out. Not here yet but yes they are fun to catch.

i have caught many, mostly from a boat. when you say trenton from the shore,do you mean the fairly new pier just south of trenton? that should be good any time now. it is just downriver from the most productive area i know but which can only be fished from a boat -- between that pier and (going upriver) the exit channel from the power plant. that used to be a warm-water discharge but the plant is closed, yet the fish still come there every spring. soon if not now the shoreline at elizabeth park will be crowded by people fishing from the shore and catching many. there are plenty of other places as the fish move upriver.

They are fun on light tackle! But are a nuisance if fishing for walleyes!

why a nuisance? they taste very good, they certainly fight more than walleyes and you are allowed 25 of them. what's to complain about?
Thanks, I usually catch them off the bank at Elizabeth Park. I drove by there this morning but didn't see anything happening. Maybe I'll check out the pier this afternoon. I saw them catching them one year at Lake Erie Metropark at the south end before they reached Elizabeth Park. I might even have to check over there to see if they're starting to work they're way up river.

Tim, not knocking them, in fact 1st fish I caught as a youngster off bank in Detroit River other than Yellow perch. Fight hard and are definitely plentiful. But when you are targeting walleye, they are just overwhelming…imho..🥹

Tim I caught a few Silver bass on Brest Bay in Lake Erie out of Sterling State Park on Sunday past…water temp was 58-60°. They are on the way…😬
Thanks for the Info,....I'll be waiting for them.
