Spent the past week trout fishing the Youghiogheny, the Savage, the Casselman, and the North Branch of the Potomac rivers. The rivers were higher than normal and some could not be fished due to high flows. Big Run State Park - and any of the waters above the Savage Reservoir - have some really beautiful water for anyone looking to fish ultralight (2 lb mono) lures for wary trout.

Largemouth and smallmouth bass were caught along with pickeral and one 10 # German brown carp that I tail hooked while fishing a lake.

Favorite spots will always be those that are part of the North Branch of the Potomac watershed in Maryland and West Virginia.

Those are some extraordinary fishing spots, Sandcrab--all the sweeter that it looks like you had them all to yourself! I used to live in Cumberland and I tell ya, I was spoiled!

Thanks everyone. You're right about not seeing ANYONE fishing at all. It's really beautiful. Anyone looking for more details, drop me a line. I could provide tips for fishing all of the rivers out there.

I used to live in Maryland and IMHO t&here is no better place to trout fish in that state. Sorry MD Gunpowder fly fishing fans - the Savage river (below or above the dam) provides more fly fishing challenges than the Gunpowder could ever do!

Well worth the 4 hour one way trip for me. I sometimes drive out there, fish all day, and return home later the same day...

Just being in Garrett County makes the experience worthwhile. Truly God's Country.

That is beautiful country out there.
Have you ever fished Blackwater river while you're out that way?

Where in Garrett County MD is the Blackwater River? I fish the North Branch of the Potomac in MD and WV along with other rivers in Garrett County.

Fishing out there is tough in the Summer. All the rivers are low and you need stealthy tactics - 2 lb line, 1/16 oz spoons and spinners, and cautious wading to catch fish out there. It's like fishing in a bathtub!
