Jimmyking, thanks for the info I will check it out. My Grandson is starting to get bored with sun fish, blue gill and small bullheads. It's time PaPa picked up his game a notch or I might loose him.

Try to go just before a cold front or approaching storm . The father the clouds the better . Go early and in the evening .

Where are some good places to fish from the bank with my 10 yr old grandson. Rivers , lakes or ponds. Catfish or bass. we would consider anyplace in the st louis area but live in sunset hills , very close to the meremac river and highway 141.

Thanks

Conservation took over Fabic lake . There is another name for it . It's off the river road . Turn left at the golf course , then left at the first road . There are two lakes up there . One you have to walk a bit . Google it. Check them out on google earth . Then there is Suson in south county a lake in BeeTree park . Google them ! Good luck !

Can you yes. If it's your first set up, let it rip!

If you have fished prior, get a better set up if you want it to last.

Honestly if you get a hook up on a monster fish it will likely destroy your reel.

I don't think they had quite the technology in reels when I was fishing a lot, 25 years ago, so I'm a little overwhelmed trying to buy a new reel. I would be fine getting a used old C3 but am not sure if there is something "I can't live without" about the new reels. Is there something amazing about the new ones or should I just go with what I know?

I ask this question with rod & reel selection almost the only thing in mind. When I buy a rod or reel, I NEED the other piece of equipment to match or at the very least not clash with the look of the rod/reel. Like for example, if I have a Mojo Yak rod (Purple), I can't have a reel like the 13 Origin TX reel (Sea-foam Green). That's an extreme example but you get the point. I was curious as to how much a look of uniformity matters to others.

--I don't care about looks . It's just not important and in no way aids in fish catching .

Fish the man made structures. Dam , riprap , bridges and causeways, old road beds and railroad tracks, especially where they cross the old river and creek channels .

Without watching, get a Lake Map and look for drop offs and structure. Bass like to hide from the other fish so they can strike at them from any kind of cover.
The edge of a drop off, brush, pier pilings, or other structure.
You can also use a Fish Finder but first look at the map for drop offs and then for structure. Just my 2 cents worth.

Drop offs are structure . Brush and pier pilings are cover .

It really doesn't matter. Just follow the basic guidelines. There are much more important things than color !

There are quite a few crappies around here and a lot of them break the surface of the water often by quickly swimming up to the surface and then back down to the depths. Some even do it in pairs it seems and on rare occasions will jump out of the water. Is this just mating behaviour?

Causeways always produce . That structure goes from shallow , all the way to the deepest water in the area. Easy picking !!!

I use to use Penn Senator 113s . Changed to Monel and solved the problem. That was 25 years ago. Sold that boat in 2001, haven't fished the sound since.

Are you going to fish again ???
